Hi all,

For the past week or so I've enjoyed reading your posts and can relate very well to much of what you write.

I was diagnosed with RA twenty years ago (am now 52 years old) and have recently started on Humira (end of Nov. 07).   We have a crap public health system here in New Zealand so it's been a long hard slog to finally get the Humira.   Lots of different drugs, steroids and triple therapy trials.   I'm pleased to share that Humira is working very well on my hands and wrists but sadly it's having no effect on my feet, which give me a lot of grief.   I have a smallholding on which I breed and train beautiful Jersey cows for the lifestyle market.   Sadly because the RA got so bad, pre Humira, I've had to sell most of my stock but I do still have a couple in milk - these girls give me a wonderful reason to get out of bed in the mornings and keep active.

The Rheumy tells me that there is too much permanent damage already done to the joints in my feet so not to expect the Humira to perform miracles.    I wonder if you guys and gals would like to share what you do to get some relief from painful feet?  I've bought many good brands of sports/hiking shoes over the years and tried different styles and types of insoles (hospital made ones included) but none give me any relief.  My wellies (rubber workboots) are the most comfortable footwear I've had for many years but I still have to get off my feet and rest them many times during the day.   As much as I'd like to, I can't very well wear them when we go to town to do the shopping or go out and about

Looking forward to hearing any tips you have to share
I have a lot of damage in my feet and the only thing I've found to help with the pain due to the damage is when I use my fentanyl patches.  Not sure if you want to go that route, but that's been the only thing that's helped with my feet.

Good luck!
Kelly
Hi Midgimoo.  Just wanted to welcome you to the boards. I can't offer any advice on your questions but others here can and will.

Hello and welcome!

Where on the feet?  If it's the top of them - you might try probiotics.  They really took my foot pain away.

Pip

Many thanks for the welcome girls

The worst of the pain in my feet comes from the balls, heels and toes - some of which are now heading west.

I had a second session with a Reflexologist and Bowen Therapist today.   Having the reflexology done on my feet is absolute heaven, but so far there's been no improvement.   I will try one more session next week before giving up.   I got hit hard in the chest by a cow last week (my fault - should have realized she'd be headshy for a few days after being ear tagged the day before) so had some Bowen done in that area today.  No instant relief but apparently this treatment continues to work for a few days afterwards.

Would love to hear if any of you had success with either Reflexology or Bowen Therapy?
I wear work boots all the time and I find them the most comfortable.
Dress shoes and the likes of runners are not the go for me.
If you have had custom orthotics made and they no longer work, try again.  Unfortunately our bodies change and you have to keep being recast.  You may also want to keep up with some light stretches on your feet.  (while sitting in a chair, lift up one foot at a time and make your foot do the alphabet)HI Midgimoo, welcome to our AI family of which you are now a valued member.  I have had two osteoporotic fractures in my feet and also suffer plantar fascitis, from a heel spur, it is terribly painful and the ankles hurt too.  My combination therapy is Endone and tramal for pain and the most comfortable walking shoes around the house etc are my crocs, they are similar to a clog but are made out of plastic of some sort, very soft and pliable and cheap too, my Dr says I should have more support but they are the only ones I find suit me.  Best of luck and sorry to hear about your pain.  best wishes Janie.

Welcome.......I really liked reading your post,  I love cows, they're so cute.  Too bad you had to let some go.  Still, fun while it lasted huh?

No foot advice here, just wanted to say hello.  Glad you found us!

My feet take the brunt of my RA too.  Sometimes, it's like trying to walk in rubber balls.  The only thing I can tell you from my own experience, is that I've learned that not all shoes are acceptable for me anymore.  I had to stop wearing my beloved flip flops and sandles.  The only shoes I can wear now are good quality tennis shoes (sneakers) made for walking.  Last time I wore flip flops, my feet swelled and it took nearly a week to get them back to "normal".  So my advice is to always wear good sturdy supportive shoes.  It makes all the difference for me.
