I thought I would try a course of Acupuncture for pain relief. My aim was to reduce the quantity of painkilling meds I was taking.

I was only able to tolerate 3 out of 4 sessions because of severe pain and swelling afterwards
The consultant Acupuncturist said that I was very sensitive and responsive to the treatment and so she had to be very careful treating me.
I have a very sensitive immune system, with severe allergies to many meds, caffiene, X-ray dyes....and not forgetting having RA.
I would someday like to give Acupuncture another go.....when I pluck up the courage, that is
Has anyone had a similar experience as me from Acupuncture?
Has Acupuncture worked for you?

Elaine I tried acupuncture when I first gor Ra about 11 years ago
and it did nothing for me  .
I did not go into a flare like you did that would be scary.
Someone from work wanted to take me to this guy to try accupuncture. The thought of little needles going into my body never has appealed to me, no matter how tiny they are. Your stories just helped me with my decision. I won't go and waste my money. Thanks.

VickiVicki  - The whole experience of Acupuncture is not unpleasant. In fact it's quite relaxing and the needles are so fine that the procedure it quite painless. It really does help with pain normally and I found I slept better too. This is why I would really like to give it another bash. Don't let my experience put you off.
My Rheumy always calls me an 'odd bod'....you can guarantee if there are side effects, I will get them.

How are you!  I'm glad you found AI!  There's not a lot of us PRA peeps here!

I've tried acupuncture with limited success.  I had real success from acupressure treatments and still continue with them 8 years later.   I alternate acupressure and massage therapy.  Lindy

Thanks Lindy

Vicki - This sounds good.....the same principle but no needles!

There is also now acupuncture for the needlephobic which uses lasers instead of needles.I haven't tried it but a friend of mine did it to stop smoking. It has been a couple of years since she quit smoking. Her hubby went with her and both quit.
True story.
I am really interested in giving Acupressure a go when I'm well over the last episode. Until yesterday I didn't even know that it existed so last night I did my on-line homework.
Wishing you all painfree times,
Elaine x
