So i am going on vacation for spring break! much needed since i just got diagnosed and I am having lots of pain and my life is starting to catch up with me. I am hoping the warm weather in the dominican republic will help for a couple of days.

My question is: has anyone had a bad reaction to the sun while on methotrexate? I am afraid that i will be burnt the entire time which will completely ruin my much needed break from life. any thoughts?

Mara
I found while I was on methotrexate the sun annoyed me. I just didnt like being in it. I took extra precautions by making sure I had on a good sunblock before being out in it for too long. I am lucky as I have a darker olive skin and not fair as I dont burn as easy. I heard on a good health show that if you eat tomatoes every day it reduces the chance of getting sunburnt. They have done years of study on it and found it to be true. So add plenty of tomatoes to your diet. Thats if you like them of course...

I think I heard you are more likely to get skin cancer while on MTX which bummed me out because I love basking in the sun.

Better check it out with your doctor and if it's true get some good sunblock.
Thanks! Have a great time, make some wonderful memories!  Just be careful - don't want to see you on Girls Gone Wild or anything!
you need a wheelchair ride, or just a ride to your gate..
(those long walks, can be h*ll on you!!)

I'm going to do that,  when I'm going on vacation.

YES.. Sunscreen.. like 50.. well i live in so ca, so i always wear sunscreen
the neutrogena is really nice, true!!

Also, do yourself a favor, and plan what are the most impt things, you want to do..
then make time, in your schedule to rest a day before and after.. you might not have to,
but it WILL and CAN make a huge diff..

like a night of partying, the next day, just hang at the pool.. take it real easy..or sleep in the AC, lol..

blessings and fun~
Wide brimmed hats are real good for walking outdoors. Wore one when I was on chemo because one of the drugs made me vulnerable to getting toasted. I love the Dominican Republic ! Punta Cana .
I always tan in the tanning beds before we go there
And put a 30 sun block on not just once but many times
during the days that we spend outside . Get a water proof
sunblock and sweat proof that will help alot.
You will just love it there . We should be going there in April.
Where are you staying at ?
Have fun! And bring back lots of pics for us Daddy's worry about their "little" girls health. I know it makes you feel like a child but keep the attitude you have that it's only because he loves you that he does this.

Good luck with your 2nd opinion!
LOL, i can sooo relate, my mom, bless her heart, lives 2, 000 miles from me and wants to know every detail, she even wants to go to the Dr w/ me.. omg, rolls eyes, lol
but then again, i'm lucky to have someone that cares, but some days i just sooo do not want to talk about my RA or my life!! lol
ahhh thank goodness for just phone calls.. (we do better long distance) hee

ohh yeah, glad you had a good trip and thats why i'm staying in a warm climate!

ohh yeah, sigh, first is your RA TEST .. positive or negative??

it took me over 20 yrs, for therapists , to figure out I was bipolar!!! and i've been that way, since a kid!!! soo hang in there!!

Actually, even tho our parents, drive us mad, lol, its cool that your dad, took the time , to do soo much.!  Esp since it sounds like he has "connections".. and believe me, that helps!
Good luck babe!
