Vitamin C and RA | Arthritis Information

My husband and i were talking today about my RA, when the big flair hit compared to the small flairs as a child etc.  We tried going over everything from eating habbits, to vitamins etc.

The only thing we came up with was that i stopped taking vitamin c for the first time about 1.5yrs before my big flair and never took it again.

Growing up my mom had me on chewables and i drank orange juice every morning.

I have read some studies by searching for vitamin c and rheumatoid in the search engines and there is a theory that it is a big thing for RA.

What are you thoughts?
I find that vitamin c helps but i was told that it doesnt stay in your system long enough as you piddle it out straight away. so it was reccommended i take the slow release ones. i have been on them now continuously for two years and when i get lazy and dont take them,i do notice a difference.I believe I get adequate amounts of vitamin C through my dietary habits. I'm going to track it for a while and see if I notice anything when I don't get enough.
I find that vitamin c helps but i was told that it doesnt stay in your system long enough as you piddle it out straight away. so it was reccommended i take the slow release ones. i have been on them now continuously for two years and when i get lazy and dont take them,i do notice a difference.
I was told by a DR once that you should take them at bedtime since they will stay in your system much longer
I take the Ester C--get a big bottle at Sam's Club. You need to take it with either a multi-vitamin or a B-complex for it to do anything significant. (Foods with B-complex will work as well) And yes it is water soluble. Take some twice a day to compensate for that. There are people who say you need lots of it. Not convinced of that. You know, if our mineral panels are usually low, I'd bet (but have no proof) that raising the level of C would help.

Pip

I have been taking Vitamin C for over 5 years now at 1000 mg a day.   I haven't had a cold in years.  Here in the Pacific NW there is a bad cold and cough thing going around and it stays for weeks.  I'm trying really hard not to get this thing.  My whole family has had a cold in the last two weeks but I have been fortunate not to catch it.  I pay very close attention to keeping my hands clean and making sure I do not put my fingers in my face. I really think it helps.  I take a whole foods vitamin to make sure I get the full benefit of vitamin C.  They cost a little more but it's worth it.

i need to get another copy, she recommends 10,000 yep 10 thousand a day of Vit C..
and thats for healthy people

i think the name of the books Is : Eat Right and stay FIT"? but not sure..

When i do take Vit c,, and i'm trying..kinda, it does help.. i just hate swallowing all these pills,but.. it works..

I need to get chewables, maybe they can become my new "healthy snack".. lol I honestly have to take it everyday scince flare started. As it does help my mental fatigue a bit. A bit is enough i truely notice. I can not drink orange juice during a flare. I get a strange reaction. I do vegetable juice and a 500 mg pill each day. A natural antihistime also. I think it may help me tolarate my meds better? I don't know. Or maybe the fact that i pee it out is peeing out toxins with it. I do notice a difference if i forget it. It is in my daily pill container so i do not. So no cure yet noticably helpful is my vote. Seems to help my hand fissures.
