study about environmental trigger for JRA | Arthritis Information

I think this is interesting, or maybe I just think I think I do...it is really over my head, but it is different from research I've seen, so I wanted to share it in case somebody can tell me what I should make of it LOL.  It seems like they really really think this is an environmental trigger.  It usually seems like I hear, 'we don't know, maybe environmental, maybe stress, blah blah blah'.

If you live in Utah, I know you will be interested.

Also trying new (to me) tinyurl thingy, hope it works:

Suzanne,  I see that you are the mother of a child with JRA.  I am awaiting an appt. with a ped rheumy for my 10 year old daughter.  Is there any advice you can give me for our 1st appt?  I have her keeping a pain journal so the dr. can see what has been hurting.  She doesn't have visible swelling, just lots of pain.

I have RA as well.  This is just killing me to see her go thru this.

So, if there is anything you think is important at the 1st visit, please let me know.

Thanks!
I did a search on 'ambient fine particulate' matter and hit a LOT of AI diseases. Then I asked "what is" and got this.

Who posted that bacteria in snow article?  This is the same thing.

Edited to say "I think it's the same thing - they don't say that!"
Pip!2008-03-12 18:18:47My doctors think my new trailer had something to do with my ra coming out with all the (going to get this spelling wrong) formaldahyde in my home.  Even my daughter was sick for a while.[QUOTE=Pip!]/

I posted the snow bacteria article, and I was thinking the same thing!!!!!  We need to get these guys together with the snow bacteria guys.  I told you when I posted it, I wanted everybody tested for snow bacteria.  (Maybe we need to start a snow bacteria message board, too, so we can be the first LOL.)

It sounds like you are doing the right things, like keeping a journal, and since you have RA yourself, you probably know a lot of what is important/what they will be looking for.

Our first appt. was very long.   All day, with a lot of labs, xrays, exams.  That was fine, because we wanted answers, but I really wasn't prepared for it to be like that.  I would go prepared to be there a long time - have snacks, things to do while you wait.  Have her wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of, too.

Write down all the questions you have, so you don't forget.  Write them down while you are there, too, if you think of something in the xray waiting room.  I always think of something I should have asked on the way home, too, so make sure you jot it down for a followup call or your next visit.

I hope everything turns out okay and I'm glad she is able to see a ped rheum.  If she does have it, it gets easier once the pain is under control.  Easier for them, easier for moms.  I still worry about the unknown, my little one doesn't have a care in the world.  Take care and I'll be thinking of you, so let me know how it goes!

Someone on another board was in a Katrina trailer, and they figured out that was what was causing her symptoms.
Thanks for the info, Suzanne.  I wouldn't have expected an all day appt. either.  I will go in planning to spend the day and have things to pass the time.  That is encouraging to hear though considering how long my own rheumatologist spent with me(NOT LONG!)

I feel like better now that she is going to see a specialist.  It is the only thing I can do for her at this point.

I will keep you posted when we learn more.

Thanks again and God Bless!
Ped rheums are usually at teaching hospitals, so maybe that makes a difference.  If you aren't going to one, it might be shorter, but that was our experience.  If you are traveling, like we have to, it is worth it to 'knock it all out' in one visit - but very draining, too!  Yours is too old to be looking forward to a Happy Meal, so you might have to be a little more creative.ewww....fine

Need to fix the last post -- don't know what happened.....

Fine particles such as smoke and haze.....perhaps cigarette smoke?  I quit several years ago, but was once a smoker.......1 1/2 + packs a day.
