ya know, when i was in the hospital, getting my tubes tied, (strangely, I dont feel thats too personal, LOL

anyway, one of the things, i did and thank goodness, all the nurses wore name badges, i always thanked them by name.. ..each and every time..
um i asked for 5 pillows and 5 blankets.. seriously thats how i sleep.. plus at midnight, i'm a nightowl, they'd bring me cheese danishs, snacks, cokes.. ahhh I enjoyed it.. LOL.. .the nurses, treated me soo GREAT!!!

supposed to be an outpatient visit, but complications.. so just one overnight, tho i could have had 2 and would have, if my friend hadn't been there to pick me up!! lol

I also made sure, when i was feeling better, to drop by the nurses station and give them a big box of candy..

Hopefully we won't be in need of this good advice any time soon!  Thanks for taking the time to post it :)

It really is good advice! We learned all of Justin's nurses names and made sure to ask how their day was, and I even tried to help them with a few things around the room when they came in. I loved some of those ladies!!!! They were awesome :) Another thing... go over all the medication orders with the nurse, especially PRN pain meds.  Morphine does nothing for me.  I make sure to tell the doctor beforehand that I want PRN vicodin for pain, and Toradol for the first day after surgery.  They always agree.  Of course, this doesn't always make it to the orders on my chart.  I make sure to verify the orders with the nurse, and have him/her call the doctor ASAP if it's not right.  All too often hospitals have blanket post-op protocols for pain relief - and it doesn't work for everyone!  Another thing... I always ask for some IV benadryl for sleep (assuming I have an IV line).  No offense to any nurses on this forum... but I've never been in a hospital where the overnight nurses know how to communicate quietly with each other.  And I'm not talking about serious job-related conversations... I really don't want to hear about last night's date when it's 2AM and I'm in pain and can't sleep. LOL Kelly! Yeah they can be noisy. We had a couple good ones. But the other two, sheesh! I have no doubt that most of the noisy nurses I've encountered have been very good and compassionate... but I think they tend to forget that their place of employment is my temporary living quarters.  And they make lousy neighbors.Nurses are who's kept me alive in snafu after snafu.  I trust nurses a HELL of a lot more than most of my doctors.  And I always 'feed' who ever is keeping me 'alive' in the hospital.  They tend to double watch out for the medical error heading my way!
