I was just wondering? Are you sure your daughter is not allergic to chocolate? I know she loves it. But i was just wondering if that possibilitiy has been explored. Some people are allergic to chocolate. That would be bad....very bad. *shudders* at the possibility. J/k that would only be in my case. It would be a wonderfully simple explanation if it were the case for your daughter.I know it is confusing, because I post about both daughters!!!  Let me just make sure everybody is talking about the right ones.....

Little one has JRA, and has had IgE testing for food allergies.  According to the allergist, she has no food allergies.  I still try to look for anything that seems that seems to increase her swelling, but so far,  I don't see a pattern.

Older one has been having headaches and stomachaches, and eliminating dairy has really helped her feel better.  We do think it is the dairy in the milk chocolate, not the chocolate.  You are right, she is a major chocoholic!!!  I bought some chocolate Tofutti ice-something (like ice cream, but no dairy) and it didn't bother her.

Hubby wants to get allergy testing for the older one.  I'm on the fence.  We really thought the little one was allergic to oranges/citrus fruits because they upset her stomach so bad.  After all her tests came back negative, we let her have oranges because she loves them so much.  She ended up with a major rash, itching and screaming so bad, hubby was ready to take her to the ER.   So, if the allergist says my older isn't allergic to dairy, I still would want her to avoid it.

Suzanne, quite often people aren't allergic to things, they are intolerant. There is a huge difference. I'm allergic to garlic. If I ingest any, my tongue gets tingly and swells, I become violently sick have to rush to hospital to be put on a drip (I am very carefulYou are right - no hives or breathing issues.  That is another reason I don't want to spend money on/put her through an allergist visit.

This is much easier than it could be, because my daughter could the feel difference right away and is committed to it.  If elimination for her took a month to notice results, I know she wouldn't have stuck with it.  Her diet has completely changed, but luckily her favorites don't seem quite as appealing anymore, when she thinks about how they will make her feel!
Sorry about the baby and the oranges. That has been my newest food allergy I guess. I noticed that this is more of a problem when i flare. I do not know why. It seemed i had a reaction to the orange juice one other time and was flaring . Thought it was the orange juice then after the flare seemed the orange juice was fine. Then when this flare started in September the same thing only worse. Total physical illness and stomache upset outragious as if i had a horrible flu for days. As for the allergy testing not 100 percent because drugs like pred and antihistimines and i am sure other things can throw this off.
Its a bugger all this for kids but she's a lucky girl that you are so supportive and there's nothing like feeling better to encourage you to keep off stuff that irritates you. Fingers crossed that things settle down for both your girls soon. That's the other bugger its not an exact science is it?omg Suzanne! Tofutti is THE BEST. LoL I adore them! :-D
