wow, what a flare...I think | Arthritis Information

Yesterday and today I've had new symptoms I've never experienced. One is major pain in my clavicles, and the other is I slept all night - 9 hours. Woke up and took my morning meds and ususally I will lie in bed until they kick in. Well this morning I fell back asleep until 5pm. Hubby leaves for work at 7:45 and he usually kisses me goodbye and I wake up and talk to him a bit. He said this morning I was hot to the touch and he couldn't wake me, so he left a note for the kids saying first one up, check on mom and call me at work. I've been flaring for two mo. but have been avoiding pred because it took over a year to get off it last time. I saw my Rheumy last week and he said my hands, elbows, knees, and shoulders were swollen and warm to the touch. At the time I told him no pred and he did lots of bloodwork and said he wanted to see me in three wks. Of course he doesn't have any openings for 4 wks. I called his office yesterday and we played phone tag because I had eye appts. Anyway, I expect a call tomorrow. Is sleeping 16 hrs normal during a flare? Is there another treatment for a flare besides a pred pack?

Thanks for any info...
Deb
I sleep alot when I am flaring. I think it is normal, at least for me it is.

I do not know if there is any other treatment for a flare other than pred. Maybe tuff it out? I do now know.

Hope the flare goes away soon. Glad you checked in, was wondering about you.

I get very tired when i flair.  Pred is all i know for a flair for quick healing.  I wish you well.Joonie, I've been kickin around here posting. Maybe when rheumy calls, he will up my mtx or something.... I can hope. Thanks for your replies~

Sorry you are so sleepy. Hope it is a temporary thing. i am tired but having trouble sleeping. Potasium seems low so i got up to eat. Just feeling strange, I guess. Something i can not explain exactly. I am freezing and my shoulder was heavy lying down on my side. So i layed down on my back. Then all the wieght of both shoulders and my back made me feel constricted. Then i felt little bites. Usually low potasium i feel ouch big bites. I remembered all of the pain meds and thought i bet that is the low potasium bites. But i was scared of having a painic attack. I am  not actually having one. I just thought if i layed there any longer pinned down by my shoulders that i might. I hope the doctor gets you straightened out soon. Oh i feel much better scince i ate. I will try to put these achy knees and feet to bed. Your husband sounds very kind.I think when you are flaring it just plain knocks the stuffing out of you.
Pred is my lifeguard.
Hope you are on the mend tomorrow.
Sorry Deb that you are feeling so bad, I have been sleeping a lot too the last few days. I havent seen hubby since yesterday morning as i  slept after he went to work, I woke up and managed to get in the shower and downstairs but by 3pm I was sleeping again, I woke up at 3am this morning, back to slepp by 6am and didnt hear hubby or kids go to work and school. I feel better today . I get a cortisone shot if I am feeling bad but I only had one 3 weeks ago so I cant have another.I also dont take pred.
I really hope you are feeling better soon. Dont worry about resting so much. its what your body is telling you it needs.
Holy hell!  You have RA, Lupus, Sjogren's, Raynaud's, neuropathy, DDD, AND fibromyalgia?? My god, when it rains, it really does poor!

Seriously, I am in my fourth month of a straight flare which just keeps getting worse and worse and not even I sleep 16 hours a day. 12-14, maybe, but I would consider going back on the pred if you can think it will help you out of your flare hole, or the upping of your MTX. Or maybe you are taking too much sleeping and pain medication. After a while it catches up with your body and it can either have the effect of not working anymore, or completely knocking you out. Something to think about, but if you can't see yourself coming off it, I don't think anyone could blame you!

Get well soon! _popupControl(); With all going on with you I can see why you slept.  I hope you get better soon.
Sleeping that long would have scared me.  But you must have needed it.  I am glad your hubby told the kids to check on you.  That was sweet.  Or I think so.
I always sleep a lot when I flair. I was told it was the combination of meds and depression that comes with a flare. don't know. I have one right now too!
