Macular Degeneration? | Arthritis Information

Anyone ever get macular degeneration due to Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil)? I had been on Plaquenil for about 8 years but stopped it about 1-1/2 to 2 years ago. Now I have some strange eye problem. I feel like a have a glare hitting only one eye.

On my way to the Dr later today but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. I think plaquenil can cause some macular degeneration but not after so long ago stopping it (unless there's something "they're" not telling us). I hope it's nothing serious.

macular degeneration is not the visual problem that occurs with plaquenil use.

Your description sounds more like a cataract or retinal detachment.
My eye Dr. told  me that my cataracts are due to the pred and .......sigh...........MY AGE .........

Mostly the pred I was on for so long.
I believe macular degeneration is the wavy then blurry stuff you see....I have a tiny bit of the wavy at times. From what I have read it is age related but I have a dear friend my age that lost her sight at age 30. I am pretty sure it is not cause by the plaquenil. They're always saying 'age'.  Bah!  How much of this is the damn disease!
