These feet were not made for walking!!!! | Arthritis Information

Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that I have managed to walk everyday this week except for Thursday!  Today I did 30mins with my older son Liam (11).  We take the dog (Alfie) and although I was hurting in my hips and knees to begin with, that eased off and the feet started but I could handle it and I am finding I am getting addicted to going, which I hope I can keep up thru the winter, (last year I spent winter in bed).

I don't know if I have lost anymore weight but I am eating better, I am following weight watchers points system at present to try and cut down on portion sizes and make sure I eat a variety of foods.

I went for two scooter rides over the weekend with my boys on their bikes and tomorrow is St Paddys so I am hoping to go out for a wee drink.  My Mother was from Limerick and my Dad is from Cork, both as Irish as they come.  I am proud to be part of them and will do my bit of having a guinness or two for tomorrow!!!!!  Happy St Pats, love Janie.

Janie thats fantastic, I wish I could walk but my ankles dont seem to let me much past my letter box. I have tried using ankle weights and riding my exercise bike to strengthen the ankles but all it does is cause more pain. What is it like at weight watchers. I have thought of going but wasnt sure they would take my medical condition into consideration.

You have definately earnt a few guinness' for tomorrow. Good on ya. Keep walking and you will be running with your boys before long. Ally
^ Hooray!_popupControl(); That's excellent news! HI ALLY, I am not actually going to weightwatchers, just following their plan as I have been before, and they did take my condition into consideration back then.  I must tell you that my ankles are sore too, but I have been told by my Gp that it is imperative that I lose weight so I take enough painkillers so that I can bear it and try and go at the best time of day for me, which is usually by about 3pm onwards.  I also tie crepe bandages around them at times when they are really bad for extra support and I use a cane or a walker depending on how bad I am.  Maybe you could just try going to your letterbox and back and slowly increase it to two trips then three etc etc, I wish you luck as it has taken me  forever to get to this stage.  Hugs Janie. janiefx2008-03-16 04:27:28Thanks Janie, I suppose sometimes in life we have to just grin and bear it to get where we need to go. I so badly want to lose weight and be able to walk before we go to Paris in september. I dont want to be a burden on my family and stop them from enjoying the holiday . I will be taking all my ankle supports, wrist braces, back brace ,walking stick etc etc.I am hoping the adrenalin of being away will help me through.Janie that is wonderful news!!!  I'm really proud of what you've accomplished, no kidding.   I can feel your sense of accomplishment in your post and it made me smile to read about it.  Good for you!!!  You're on your way (literally!!!)  LOL Jesse882008-03-16 05:11:23No worries Ally, I am sure you will manage it well, just make sure you don't overdo it!!!  The weightloss is so hard, I thought I had lost another 2.5kg on my 2nd week but on the third week, it showed a gain of 3kg, apparently the previous weeks loss was fluid due to 8 hours on the toilet from MTX!!!!!!  Theres always something, isn't there that just makes us realise that we think it is under control, but then that something sneaks up and hey presto!!!!!  Hugs Janie.
I'm really happy to hear that you're out walking.  It's so important to get the weight off our joints.  I do the same thing, take a pain pill and walk or golf.  After 3 months of doing this I find that I need the pain pill less for exercise.  Right now I'm flaring with PA but I'm still walking.  Knees are screaming but that's ok.  Keep it up.  Lindywalking is a fantastic stress reliever!   keep up the good work!   when i walk regularly no matter how bad i feel starting out it is always way worth it in the end.   i am less anxious about everything if i walk at least 30 minutes a day.  the fresh air alone is worth it plus my dog loves it
