Another Good Book On RA | Arthritis Information

Hello all. I am pretty much on the hunt at the moment for books on RA. I am reading, reading, reading.

Here's another brilliant one I got from the library:

The Expert Patient's Guide to LIVING A FULL LIFE WITH RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS by Jasmine Jenkins.

At the age of 32, with 3 small children, Jasmine Jenkins was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Having benefited personally from Occupational Therapy, she trained to become a fully qualified Occupational Therapist herself. She wrote this book from the perspective of both practitioner and patient in the belief that it will help others manage this condition positively and well.

You can read the book online, chapter by chapter at: http://www.livingafulllifewithrheumatoidarthiritis.info/

Check it out. Thanks for this, could be beneficial.

PS: Just having a quick look through I noticed that a tens machine could be helpful with pain management.
We have one at home but never thought to try it.
Will give it a go when I feel the need for relief.

Post back after you fire up the TENS!  I've been thinking of getting one.
Thanks for adding the link, Stephen. I didn't have a clue how to do that.

What I like about this woman, Jasmine Jenkins, is she used occupational therapy to get well and then became an occupational therapist herself which to me is thinking 'outside the square' to begin with as the belief with most RAer's is that we won't be able to work eventually. She actually did the opposite, which I think is how we need to see things with this disease.

Distraction..

Just read this little bit from Cordelia's link and think it ties in well with my recent threads.

Cordelia2008-03-16 23:31:46 Another snippet from the link and one I find can help with stress and to a lesser extent, pain.

Activity As Relaxation

Another way of relaxing is to do an activity that you really enjoy.
This will not achieve complete relaxation but it will help reduce symptoms of stress because it will take your mind off whatever is causing you stress.
If the activity involves exercise this is even better as it will give you extra benefits.
