Hi everyone, the other day I mentioned that I was worried I could have menieres disease. Well I had the doctors appt and he seems to think that its AIED(autoimmune inner ear disease) he was going to discuss it with my rheumy tomorrow and I have another appt tomorrow afternoon.  When is this crap going to end. I must have been a bad person in my last life. Sorry feeling a bit down at the moment.^ You are not a bad person! At all! You are just a bit unlucky! Autoimmune diseases have an overlap phenomena, which is why so many people here have many auto-immune diseases together. It just goes with the territory. I am sorry that you are feeling down. Would you like me to make you some pancakes? _popupControl(); thanks paperdoll, its just as I start to get the arthritis slightly under control, this has to jump on me. my hubby blames my bad family genes which just upsets me more. men can be so uncaring sometimes. He says he has no health issues in his family genes. Thanks for the pancake offer. I love pancakes especially with lemon and sugar. yummy.*whips you up some pancakes, stat!*

Oh, my! I'm sorry that your husband doesn't understand your disease and isn't as supportive as you like. Is there anyway to talk to him to let him know how upset you are? As for the genes thing... everyone has a 1% chance of getting RA, and a smaller chance of it being PA, and even if it runs in your family, it only jumps to about a 3% chance. Sure there are environmental and physical factors in getting the disease as well, but blaming your family genes for getting a rare disease isn't going to help anyone. It is just a random thing that happens, it is no ones fault.
_popupControl(); allycat have you had hearing loss associated with the dizzyness.   The website says that the early symptoms are hearing loss with dizzyness.

Yeah for a while now it has fealt like i had water in my ears all the time. like when driving in the hills and you need to pop your ears when at the bottom.Oh I am sorry to hear about your ears.  I sure hope together the docs can figure it out and get you on some plan that will help.  Good luck.Allycat - it doesn't matter what you did in your past life; only what you're doing in this one.  You are not 'unlucky'.  We make our own luck.

Paperdoll - I'd disagree with your numbers, but I don't have time today.  Hugs!

Ally - first rule out other things like sinuvitis (spelling) and check your med list!  id anything come on right after starting a certain med.  For example, one of the more common side effects of Minocycline is dizziness - and it usually lasts about 2 - 3 months.  So, if this is new and you have changed any med recently - search for the med and the dizziness on Google and see what popped up.  I've seen posts here about dizziness being common on some of the traditional meds too.

Also, demand a referral to an ENT, preferably a Oto if I have the term right.  NOW, sweetie!

Also - run a search here and see if you can find my posts about auto-immune hearing loss.  I posted some killer research which I saved on AOL - but my AOL is DEAD yet AGAIN!  I'm going to be offline most of today as my hubby is going to wave yet another magic wand over this damn computer to see if he can get it working.  I think he needs a new wand or I need to call Dell and tell them their new computer SUCKS!

Pip the pissed!

Sorry about your dizziness and the confusion about what may or may not be causing it. Being dizzy is bad enough- that's a terrible sensation to have to live with. I get it from time to time for months on end. Mine is caused by crystals forming on the little bone in my middle ear and it just takes time for them to break up and I don't know where the pieces go but then it stops.

I can't tell you to do this because I don't know what is causing yours...but they tell me to lay down and then sit up and whip my head to the right. Then lie down and get up and whip my head to the left. This is supposed to help free the crystals. Mostly it just makes me want to vomit.

Hang in there and hope you come to the bottom of it quickly and it's something non-permanent.
Hi Wanntoberafree, gotta do something about that long sign on name......

We both have the same ear problems.  They told me the same thing about whipping my head around. Guess what, I did vomit in my bed.  Cats and husband scattered in all directions leaving me dizzy, ill, lmao, and not being able to move because another wave of dizziness hit and I fell against the wall when I tried to get to the bathroom.  I finally made it to the bathroom.  I'm hysterical lauging, vomiting, lurching around the room and the guys are standing there gawking at me in amazement.  Stan finally realized that something was wrong and helped me.  It's  an absolutely incredible, horrible, feeling of helplessness.  That was the day I almost overdosed on Dramamine.

It comes and goes and there's absolutely nothing to do for it except try the head motions again or take Dramamine and knock myself out.  Apparently it has nothing to do with RA, just mostly part of the aging process.  Hope it gets better for both of us.  I hadn't talked with anyone else that had this particular ear problem.......I'm glad that there's someone else out there and I'm not crazy.  Lindy

LinB - Yeah my name is toooo long.  You can call me Lisa.

To Lin & Sno  I sure wish for Allycat that her situation can be as benign as the one we are speaking of.
My kids tease me all the time about growing crystals in my ears- they think it's hilarious.
I find nothing really helps but time passing.
Once before I got diagnosed with the "crystals" I went to an ENT who did hearing tests, balance tests, and various other nonesense handed me a bill for 0 and sound it was inconclusive I should go for an EEG. I saw those charges and I was immediately cured. No lie.
At another doctor visit I was told the next step was to do a test where they put you in a reclined chair and spin you around in circles in all different positions and I stopped being dizzy then too!
Maybe it's the power of suggestion!
Thanks everyone for your help, support and suggestions. I havent started any new meds lately and dont have a flu, virus or anything(that I know of). I have had dizzy spells on and off over the last 5 years but this has mainly started bad since I hit my head the other week, slipping on wet tiles. I will see what the doc says this afternoon. I have also had a sty come up on my bottom eyelid this morning so I am feeling pretty grumpy at the moment.I don't know allycat- maybe you do just have a middle ear problem now that you say it started after you slipped and hit your head. My first episode started after riding in a boat with my husband & brother in law who was hot dogging going so fast the boat was jumping out of the air and crashing back down on the waves. It caused the tiny inner ear bones to get knocked off of where they belong and caused dizziness for a really long time.allycat: Know where you're coming from! There was a time when even when I swallowed or chewed and swallowed it sounded like the squishy sound wet tennis shoes make and always my ears felt like they needed to pop. Does it affect your hearing? It did mine.

Anyway the first doctor I went to told me he couldn't see any sign of infection and the lab work didn't show there was any either. So he told me to hold me to plug one ear at a time and blow my nose as hard as I could. That's right it didn't work but it did make my eyes water even more and gave me a headache, too.
The second doctor decided I required tubes in my ears. That didn't happen either- No Way.

So the ENT figured it out. This was all the result of my asthma/allergies. Now this is someting I tried to explain with the first two doctors.  Don't recall what he prescribed me but I do recall the allergic reaction - you always recall your trips to the ER.  By then I was simply satisfied to know I was right all along. So Spring thru Fall I toughed it out year after year after year.

Then RA hit me. The prednisone took care of the problem almost immediately. Am waiting to see if the AP will be effective this spring.  Since I am now able to cross my fingers and toes I'm crossing them already.
It should.  The links I wanted Ally to look at involved using Minocylcine to PROTECT the hearing.

Hugs,

Pip
[QUOTE=SnowOwl]You know, that sounds a lot like something my husband experienced a couple of years ago.  He started having dizzy spells, then they got bad to where he'd lie flat on the floor fighting back nausea until they passed.  Then finally after a couple weeks of that he had a really big attack that had me running red lights to get him to the ER, all the way he threw up into a wastebasket as the car lurched.  At the hospital he kept being sick, they put him on fluids and pumped several different meds into him.
