Why pain? | Arthritis Information

I took Friday off of work and me and two of my closest friends went shopping in a city an hour away.  We were gone for 12 ½ hours and had the best time!  Saturday, I couldn’t move enough to even get out of my pajamas.  My shoulders and hips were painful.  Sunday was a little better, but still couldn't even make it to church.  Today, I still ache but a lot better.

I just don’t understand why this happens.  I recently had a wrist x-ray.  They bother me the most and I had no damage.  So, why do I end up in pain when I overexert myself?  It’s not like I’m flaring.  There’s no flu-like feeling.  Can someone explain this to me?  I don't get it.

I have that too, I always think of it as my body trying to tell me to slow down. Sadly when I overexert myself I do flare pretty bad. Right now I am flaring worse than I have in years, my husband had to help me dress and yesterday I literally could not get out of bed. Things happen. Our bodies need a little bit more care than others, you just need to learn your limits. Hard, but your body is trying to talk to you. I could be something you ate, not having enough sleep, or just a change in route. When you say flare I am guess you mean swelling?  Because if you can't get out of bed and are hurting that bad, in my book that is a flare.  But I am new to all this lingo so I am learning.

Hope you feel better soon, both of you!

Even before arthritis our bodies would hurt when we had a day filled with more activity than we are used to.  With RA the symptoms are exaceberated.

flare is extreme pain, sometimes swelling, other times not so much. You just feel horrible. I get a fever, rash, everything hurts, even my clothes hurt! You can't move much, head ache, ect. Its not fun! But thanks

I finally figured out my pattern...Every Monday I take my MTX and will be tired for Tues. & Wednesday. Wednesday I taper my prednisone. Thursday I start getting achy, Friday worse, Saturday worse, Sunday the worst til I think I oh no I'm going to revert back to extreme pain...

Then Monday I wake up fine and I start all over again

Before I had RA, I may have had some muscle pain, but not joint pain from shopping.

I just don't get the "mechanics" of it.  If you are feeling fine.  You have no ongoing inflammation.  You aren't flaring.  You have no damage.  Why does the increase in movement cause pain?

maybe fibro?
maybe fibro?
Joonie,

I didn't know that fibro could cause joint pain?  I thought the trigger points were all that were involved.
I might be wrong.... LOL! I was wrong about fibro causing swelling, which it does not, LOL!I know why I thought might be fibro, because it sounded like widespread pain, to me. But if it is joint pain, then it probably is not Fibro.

It might help me next time to actually go back and read what my previous reply was.
I don't get it...no swelling just pain all over and it comes and goes moving all over my body. I can't imagine this is "normal"???
I think I have something similar. It doesn't make any sense at all. I thought arthritis was this slowly getting stiff and achy deal and it does feel that way a lot, but it's so stealth like, it's here and there and this will hurt and then it goes somewhere else and does something different.  Mostly joints. I think pain radiates and makes you think your muscles hurt.

The only thing I know for sure is that it does repeat appearances in most areas, but when and how are very unpredictable.

I moved around quite a bit today and did a little shopping. Almost felt good. I'm expecting another miserable day tomorrow in payback.

Thursday is not too far off, but I know to you it sure does feel like it is NEVER going to get here.
I can be over doing it, it could also be foods you ate or if you drank alcohol or even a combo of all 3.

Sometimes i walk more than i could for months because of a good time and have no problems the next day, other times i only walk to the bathroom and can't move in the morning.  It confuses me often.
Well i have been told fibro, i have been told RA stiffness agravated by my meds. Seriously my pain that was supposed to be not swelling, swelled. For me i think it was just smoldering inside and still damaging me maybe. So for me the fibro dx i somedays do not hardly believe scince all of my fibro swells. Maybe it is the RA stiffness. For me they said my asthma inhaler and my Provigil makes that worse. Or maybe just the poor muscles are wore out from all they have put up with. To me it means i am not better, and then i was right. Swelling was down for a month and a half. It was still good and sore. I am looking at the muscles on the sides of my knees and thinking , that does not look like fibro to me. My whole knee is swollen but those muscles on the side are sure swollen also. I say knee but i mean both knees. I really do not know?

Here is something of interest, maybe?

What kind of Pain is Caused by Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia syndrome is generally accepted as a type of
arthritis, but, unlike most forms of arthritis, it typically affects the muscles in your body instead of the joints. This muscle pain caused by the syndrome is usually widespread and can occur anywhere at any time.

Fibromyalgia pain affects the skeletal muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the body. Pain can also be felt in the bursa, the sacs that surround your joints providing nutrition and lubrication needed for movement. Sometimes, pain can be localized in particular areas, although most fibromyalgia sufferers will experience pain in all four quadrants of the body.
