Sorry I haven't been in, Husband been sick again and again.  Hope everyone is haveing a pain free day.

My husband has been in the hospital a lot in the last few years.  for pneumonia and different things.  The last time 2 weeks ago, he was haveing black BMS and throwing up black, wich is blood.  when he went in he couldn't have nothing to eat or drink, (He hadn't been able to keep anything down for days so he was very dry.  but after test doc said he could have clears drinks which he  inclued coke, pepsi, tea, coffee, water and jello as long as it wasn't red till midnight because he was having a upper gi next afternoon.  the nurses gave him nothing, so I went down and got him a pepsi and ice water. 3 hours later they come in with tray and got mad because he had a pepsi and poured it out.  On the tray was black coffe and green jello and broth.  I didn't say anything I just went and got him a 7 up. and kept him plenty of ice water.  next day after test the doc said he could eat and drink  anything he wanted, again they didn't bring anything in so I went down and got him food and drink and more water.  the doc come in and said his blood count was low so he was going to give him 2 pints of blood.  when they come with a tray about 5 it was clears, about the same as before so we gave it back to them.  next day they said he needed another pint of blood and they wanted to do a lower gi, so he couldn't eat again.  and the doc said he wanted him to start drinking that gal. of stuff at 5, 1 glass ever 10 mins.  till gone, well nurse didn't bring it in till 6 and told him to only drink it ever 1/2 hour.  At 7:30 night nurse come in with a bottle of stuff to drink and seen he hadn't drank the gal. yet and was mad.  come to find out day nurse didn't want him to start haveing bms before she left.  he got it all down.  they brought in a potty chair to use that night.  He still hadn't got the blood.  I ask again about it and was told he already had blood the day before, I said doc want him to have another pint.  She come back after a while and said I was right and she would get the blood and give it to him.  I left at 10pm.  after 12 hours of careing for him.  He called me at 11 and said they moved him to another room and he still hadn't gotten the blood.  after test the doc said he could have anything to eat and drink and again I had to go down and get it for him they didn't even bring in water. his room smelled so bad that I dis conected him and went down to waiting area for him to eat.  I throught it was the man in the other bed which wasn't getting that much care.....when I said something to my husband he said no that it was his pot that no one had ever empty.  I still don't know if he got the blood I was so tire that I fell asleep.  In the 4 days he was there he had no bath or shave and I changed his bed because it was a mess.  The nurses have been on stike twice and going out again...they say they are fighting for  better patient care.  I say they need to get off their fat behinds and at least give something to drink and give the blood that the doctors  orders, family should not have to do the work.   sorry just need to vent....I did nurseing for years and its hard work if you do your job.

You need to send what you just wrote to the Administrator of that hospital .
That is the worste care I have ever heard of . You have every right to be mad .
But you also need to report this too .
This kind of stuff just burns me up !!
HO-LEE-CRAP!  OMG I would have been FURIOUS!  Definitely rattle the cages all the way up to the CEO and county/state health board! OH my I am so sorry to hear your husband had to go through all of that.

I do hope he is doing better.  And yes I would report that.
You have every right to be mad...I would have been furious.  I would definitely send what you wrote above to the hospital administrator, as well as his doctor, and anyone else for that matter.   If it were me, I would even contact local media, especially sinc ethe nurses seem to be stricking for better patient care.  Maybe more people need to be aware of the care that is happening there.I'm surprised at how poor in-hospital care can be. If you go in for day surgery, everything is like clockwork and you are out the door again. Inside, they seem to forget that you are even there--except for the billing with the .00 Tylenol tablets and all. Is there another hospital you can take him too??? That's HORRIBLE! *hugs* I'm so sorry!! :( Hi again,  We have two hospitals in our area, both owned by same people, this is the better of the 2.   Husband goes back to doc. tomorrow, I'm going to ask about the blood and the care he got.  He is 75 and is very forgetful and out of it at times, I don't know what would have happen if I hadn't spent so much time up there.
I just don't understand it, because he has alway gotten good care before, maybe they are wanting people to complain to prove that they need less patients per nurse, I don't know it's crazy.  I didn't want to make them mad because I never know when I'll have to take him back. they never did find out what was wrong with him after 4 days of testing.  He is feeling a lot better after getting blood.
First night he was there the man in other bed more less died, they worked on him for over 20mins and got him back, so many people come in there, the room was full and they knew what they were doing, (man died later in ICU)  So they are good.  Back when I was an NA. We where told what to do and the Rns trained us, so when they left we took over.  We gave shots handed out meds and did about all of it.  But the patients got daily baths with back rubs.  Is any body else old enough to remember back rubs while in the hospital.  I miss the good old days when the only reason that I hurt was because I put in a hard days work and didn't have RA. .....nite all
Sorry to hear about your hubby and his stay, Rusty. Hope he is doing better!Rusty - I am so sorry your husband and you had to go through this experience, and that nurses have to strike to get professional salaries.  My past three hospitalizations (auto-immune related, and no diagnosis, just we don't know what is going on) were nightmares too, from waiting half a day for admission, to broken testing equipment (multiple times), to the billing taking months to straighten out.  I, too, remember when hospitalization was a serious matter and you received top notch care with a diagnosis and a treatment plan, not a shrug of the shoulders and muttered comments that you are faking your symptoms for pain killers.

I am afraid this downward spiral of medical service is only going to get worse as I see no effort being made to try to alleviate these now chronic problems, as shown by the nurses having to strike.  Stories like yours only enforces these statistics that the USA is at the bottom of some of the industrial nation's lists for quality health care.  Cathy  PS  I would appreciate not being blasted for stating my opinion based on my personal experiences.
Oh Rusty! That is just awful! I am so sorry you and your husband are going through this! I hope he gets better and you guys will be in my thoughts and prayers!
