Plaquenil & Dry Skin | Arthritis Information

Does anyone have any problems with severe dry skin that itches like mad, whilst on Plaquenil?

I have really bad dry skin around my shins, calfs and feet that's flaking off. In fact all my skin feels real dry. I have tried using loads of moisturiser but It just keeps coming back. Sometimes there is a rash (like tiny red pin pricks) and it itches like crazy.

I have been on Plaquenil for 5 months now and have had this problem for about a month.

I thought I might be sensitive to chlorine in the therapy pool but not so sure that's the cause.

I had the same itchy shins/ankles when I first started plaquenil. Luckily it only lasted about a month and i found if i didnt scratch it, it would be so bad. I havent had the problem since so hopefully it will stop for you also.No, not much dryness. I wonder if it's a drug allergy? Better check with your doctor. I have very dry skin and take plaquenil...but not sure if that's the reason for the dry skin. I'm thinking for me, it's probably menopause....I blame everything on menopause lately
