A friend sent me this link with regard to a small study on vegan diet and RA.  I thought it might be of interest and/or help to some here.

Why do all the diets that are supposed to help you sound more painful than the disease?
Why do all the diets that are supposed to help you sound more painful than the disease?
Yes, I agree.  In fact my husband and I were talking about the vegan diet just last week because he has high cholesterol and vegan is so good for that as well.  We both decided it was just too strict.  This from a man who is very disciplined with his diet already.  No, it's not for us, but some people may want to try it.  depends on the person, I have done it, its hard, but I felt pretty good and it was worth the struggle!I have a big belief in everything in moderation. I can't deny myself things I enjoy and still feel like life is worthwhile.

Then again- I don't have any adverse effects from anything either....
I know many people who have either vegan or gluten/dairy free diets and while the first year or so is difficult after you learn the new way of eating and the different food options you have it's not at all bad. The worst thing about it might be giving up a lot of convenience foods, so you have to do more home cooking. But you learn shortcuts, like making a big batch of soaked grain pancakes and then freezing most of them for toaster snack breakfasts. Some of the recipes are INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. Also, some cuisines are basically vegan if you don't order meat dishes, such as Lebanese food (it's not gluten free though).

Also, if you live in an urban centre it shouldn't be hard to find Hippie restaurants that cater to restricted dietary needs. I eat about twice a week at a local place that has a lot of vegan and raw food dishes. It's all organic and good, and they are well known for their raw food desserts. I can safely say they have the best salads EVER, and it's pretty cheap to boot.

I guess if you believe diet has a huge impact on your health it's easier to commit to such a diet. I'm actually pretty keen to start a gluten-free diet but I have to wait until fall because I'm going to be living on the road all summer and I think it's unrealistic to launch such a diet under those conditions. I am about to do the Dr Joshi 3-week  Detox again. I think because I did it last year it will be easier to do it again this year, since I know the range of foods I can eat and what recipes I like.
