My whole arms down to my finger tips felt numb, swollen, painful last night. It was miserable. Heat still helped and I was finally able to fall asleep with the heat on my shoulders. This morning they still feel a bit swollen, my wrist is painful, fingers stiff and shoulders hurt but not quite as bad as last night. Sorry you had a bad night. I get numb arms and hands, normally if I am flaring, Also if i have overdone it during the day.

I hope you feel better soon.
Take care
Lisa
Maybe it was last night! Oy, it was the worst night I have ever had! I had pain so severe! Oy! I still hurt pretty bad, but I am in a bad flare, not that there is a good one, right now. Hope you feel better!ShaDucky,  it just so darn painful but weird at the same time to me.  I think maybe I analyze things too much.  Ok, people what do you do to help the pain?   Need your expert advise.  Still hurting today and so is my darn hip so walking is not pleasant but I have to go get some books back to the library.  I take my pain meds and curl up with my hubby, he lightly rubs were it hurts because it relaxes the nerves, doesn't help the joint pain but realives the stress of it, does that make sense. I also try to distract myself with a movie, or book. Showers help if you can stand. But I really rely on my hubby. I wouldn't have gotten through last night without him. I thank God for him, he is such a blessing. A cup of tea helps too, don't know why, maybe just relaxing, the more you can relax, the better the meds work!Sounds like a good plan.  Working on getting to doc to call me in some pain med.  I am out, Tylenol not cutting it.  Think he has Lortab on the brain, hope it works, can't remember but I think that might be the one that doesn't do anything for me. oh I am very familiar w/ the painful but numb feelings  ...

Sorry you're having a difficult time.

I tried warm baths.... it helped to relax everything for a short time....enough time to get to sleep.

(Side note: Lotokids.. you sure do have lots.. I have 5 but you are much more blessed than that!! )
Lotokids , Have you ever been checked for carpal tunnel ?
My hands and arms would get so numb during the day and
more so at night . My Rd was treating me for a bad hand flare
for months until I did some research and told the doc that I
wanted to see a hand specialist . I had carpal tunnel so bad
that he did surgery right away . I've had no pain sense then .
1 year pain free in my hands.
babs, yes blessed we are.  We love them very much.  They keep us jumping.

maimi, I haven't but the arm swelling coincides always with other things that seem RA related.  My feet and knees too, just miserable.

What did they do to find out it was carpal tunnel?
Lotokids , I found this on mayo clinic.com for you .
  • Electromyogram. Electromyography measures the tiny electrical discharges produced in muscles. A thin-needle electrode is inserted into the muscles your doctor wants to study. An instrument records the electrical activity in your muscle at rest and as you contract the muscle. This test can help determine if muscle damage has occurred.
  • Nerve conduction study. In a variation of electromyography, two electrodes are taped to your skin. A small shock is passed through the median nerve to see if electrical impulses are slowed in the carpal tunnel.
  • LOTO- I have had the carpel tunnel test done, its not sore, just a bit uncomfortable when the electrical pulse hits. I hope you find out whats causing it.originally a neuro thought I had carpel tunnel too... he had the tests done to see where my discomfort originated... ALL came back normal.

then upon RA diagnosis the Neuro said that the inflammation can cause carpel symptoms..

    *shrug*
Kids are taking the books back.. REST! seriously and thats the strongest pain meds, ya got.. omg..

hope you're feeling better, children can be nice little slaves.. um helpers :P LOL
