Hi guys, my GP wants my RD to OK the flu injection while on MTX, he hasn't got back to us yet, any advice on wether it is safe or not.  Thanks Janie.

My RD was fine w/ me having the flu shot.  I got the flu shot and the pneumonia vaccine over the fall.  I dont see why you wouldnt be able to *not* get one.  Im on mtx and Humira and my dr was fine...he didnt even hesitate about it

I could be wrong, but as I understand it, you can't get the nasal mist vaccine because it contains live culture.  You can get the shots as they don't. kweenb2008-03-22 07:24:42 [QUOTE=kweenb]I could be wrong, but as I understand it, you can't get the nasal mist vaccine because it contains live culture.  You can get the shots as they don't. Yep!

Definitely get the shot.  It may be somewhat less effective because of the methotrexate you're taking, but the shot itself poses no danger to you.
Right.  The flu vaccine is not a live virus so you're OK.  I had asked about getting the shingles vaccine because there seems to be a lot of that around here lately, but the PCP said no, because it's a live vaccine.   But I got the flu vaccine with no problems while on the MTX.  Jesse882008-03-22 08:13:23
