Seasons and RA | Arthritis Information

Hi all,

I'm curious to know how the different seasons affect your RA?

I am in the least pain in Spring and Autumn.   Summer heat makes me very fatigued and intensifies my pain, especially in my feet.   We've just had the longest, hottest summer in New Zealand for many years but I've not enjoyed it.  Autumn is on it's way and I'm feeling much better

We have lovely winters in the area I live in -  lots of frost but nice sunny days afterward.  I feel the cold more than others but don't experience any more pain than in Autumn or Spring.  Energy levels are much better than what they are in Summer, which is great as I love to be outside working with my cows.
Cheers

I've not experienced much, if any, variations due to weather or climate.  I generally have allergy problems in the spring and fall, but that's about the only weather-related health issue I have. I'm with you Jas, I don't notice any difference no matter what the weather is.doesn't matter when.. but damp cold weather is not good for me.  I can not watch my young son on the lacrosse field at practice until it is much warmer than now.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to thank you for sharing

Cheers

^ I love cows, Midge! My family are dairy farmers, so they are in my blood! New Zealand is such a beautiful country, I couldn't imagine how cold it could get though!

I do get a bit worse in summer, maybe because the Australian summer is so hot, but I definitely notice that I am more active in general from now (Autumn) until Spring. My asthma only plays up when the weather changes, though, I don't believe that the weather affects my arthritis in the slightest.  _popupControl();

Hi Paperdoll, it's always good to meet another cow lover

Yep, we can get quite cold here in the Sth Island.  We moved to this area 9 years ago as where we lived previously had a more extreme climate which knocked me about - Ausssie like temps.  in summer!

I had 3 x 6 month stints in Aussie in my teens and early 20's.  After the first trip to Brisbane in summer I only went back again in winter, but even then I found the heat hard to cope with especially up in Cairns and Darwin.  LOL   Had a good look around your lovely country the last time I was there.  I have a son and brother in Esperance.

Cheers

It's not really the rain/cold/heat that does me in, it's the drastic changes in pressure. The faster it changes, the worse I am. Or the bigger the difference from day to day, the worse I am. Which can make it seem like things like thunderstorms make me flare. But not all storms do that. Am I making sense?

Yep, Katie, you're making perfect sense

I don't personally feel these changes, just get knocked about by heat - but in saying that there's nothing like a good hot spa bath after working outside on a cold winters day.

Add a spa bath to the list of "things I couldn't live without" in the daily grind of living with RA and it's associated illnesses.   Actually, this would make a good topic if it hasn't already been covered.
It has, but we revisit it often anyway. People are always adding good ideas to the "I cant live without" list. :)Thanks for that Katie  I'm sure it will be interesting reading so will do a search for the thread. My pain is much much worse in the cold damp weather. I live in NY and I just came back from the dominican republic and while i was there I felt like my old self again it was awesome! As soon as I left the airport back in ny it was like the pain rushed back in. it's really awful. So for me the change is really drastic.
