I woke up this morning and as soon as my eyes opened it was lightheaded/dizzy. The room was spinning. I got out of the bed and went to the bathroom, the whole everything spinning. I took my BP after I got dressed, because everything was still spinning. It was it the normal range of 120 over something, pulse was almost normal 87 I believe. I have took my BP so many times today, I cannot remember most of them.

Then I took my BP just before we got out of the car to go into the church, and it was 114/70, pulse 75. I was like that seems a little low. Hubby was like we'll ask moma. So... I went into the church and went to the restroom. Then while I was in there washing my hands, all of a sudden a felt this "wave" come over my head and I just all of a sudden did not feel well. I was kinda feeling like I was in slow motion, but I was able to think clearly. You know how when you look at someone who looks like they are in deep thought or not thinking at all, but just staring into space? That is how I felt. I could hear every thing and think of replies, but my body was not reacting and if it did it was very little.

I came out of the bathroom, and stopped in the hall because my dauhgter was talking to me, and she gave me a hug and I almost fell over. One of the women, had to keep me from staggering backwards. Then I went up the 2 steps to go into the where hubby & MIL was and there is this ramp you have to go down. I started walking down it, and then I just could not stop walking. I kept thinking stop walking stop walking, then I tried to stop walking and I started staggering sideways, and I just felt out of control and I almost fell. If it was not for my hubby grabbing my arm and pulling me toward him I would have fell. I could not talk, only think. It was weird to say the least.

Then hubby got freaked out again. When I get one of those episodes, my eyes are just barely open, but they are open... I can see things and all. I was sitting there looked down at the Hymnal reading the verses, and my hubby looked at me and shook me because he thought my eyes were closed, and was afraid that I might have passed out. He asked me if I was ok, I looked at him and said yeah why? He told me because it looked like my eyes were closed and he thought I passed out.

It is not freaking me out as much as it seems to be freaking my poor hubby out. But I am starting to get a little freaked out now, because my BP has been below or at 120 over something. One time it was at 114 over something. and that was a few mins right before I had that episode when I was coming out of the restroom at church.

I had another episode after I came back in from walking around outside hunting eggs. My BP was 118/85. But I did not get as bad as I did at the church. I was just lightheaded and just did not feel well and felt like I needed to go to sleep.

I did not take the blood pressure pill today, because my BP has been low or below low all day. So... I just did not think I needed to take it if it was low already.

I am going to call GP's office, Monday to see if they can see me the same day. This needs to be addressed and corrected.

I know if I am home all day tomorrow by myself, my poor hubby will be calling me every 20 mins to make sure I am ok. He would worry about me the whole time he is gone to work. And I would also be home with my son alone. Which would freak hubby out even worse, if I did not answer the phone if he called. Some times I do not make it to the phone before people hang up. Like If I am taking a shower or in the bathroom or doing some thing at the time someone calls.

But in-laws will be home tomorrow, so hopefully I will get an appt to see GP, Monday and I will not have to be home with son by myself.

Hope Everyone had a Great Easter!Hi Joonie,
Normal blood pressure is 120/80. So you were about normal. Before church, did you eat anything? I remember you saying your blood pressure has been high and that you take yoiu meds at bedtime. Maybe because by the time you wake up.....all your meds and in full swing but your tummy is empty and it causes you to feel dizzy>...........I don't know, just a thought. I know sometimes when I take me meds and don't eat, I feel dizzy, lightheaded and just out of it.
I do think you should see your gp tomorrow. Let us know. I am curiouser and curiouser. How do you feel now?

Hey Joonie, sorry to read you're feeling so bad.
What BP medicine are you on and what mg? It may be too strong and causing flucuations. Please do tell your Dr how your doing, he may want to change or lower your dosage. I am on Metroprolal and I have to take 1/2 twice a day or it makes me feel the way you're describing.

My computer went kaputz again, I gave my other one to Trey, this one's still crazy and going back in the shop  (different shop) ASAP
Hope everyone is doing well...I miss you guys!
Hi Joonie, have you had your blood sugar checked?  Just a thought.  Janie.

Right now, everything is swimming again, and I have not got out of my bed since I logged on to the board. I could tell I was fixing to have another episode again when I was talking to my mom about 30 mins ago, because I started not feeling well, and was not talking as much to her.

Hubby just checked my BP and it is 129/90, pulse 85. But everything is swimming and I feel tired now, and my breathing is getting shallow again. Feels like something is sitting on my chest.

At 9:00pm my BP was 112/91, pulse 94.

Wonder what it will be if I get to see GP tomorrow? I accidentally erased all my readings from earlier today. So... I only have 3 readings from this evening.

Janie - No, have not had my sugar checked. It does not feel like low blood sugar. I use to get low blood sugar when I was a teenager.

Joonie, when I started having BP problems, I drove myself crazy taking my BP every few minutes. The cardiologist I was sent to for a stress test told me not to take my BP but twice a day, am and pm...I was having panic attacks over it. Not saying you are but your BP so far seem almost perfect today. My hubby's BP runs 106/67 to 120/70...all normal. I was told to take my BP at the same time am and pm, record it for a week, then I was put on meds. Not dangerous high, borderline 150/89 consecutively. Also not to eat or drink or smoke (if a smoker) for 30 mins prior to taking and to use both arms, sit straight, no crossed legs.
Good luck hon, hope it's nothing serious...and nothing to do with the Remicadeor your heart.

Mine is 50mgs generic too...for Toprol. I take mine .25 am and .25 pm. That way I have no side affects, groggy, sluggish, tired, just kinda out of it.With your history of pred use you need to have your sugar checked. Long term pred can make someone a diabetic. Hey Katie! how are you? I see you're having neighbor problems, bless your heart! Hope it resolves soon and you don't have to move. How's Justin doing?

Joonie, Katie's right ...if your sugar hasn't been checked lately it needs to be. All these things can get out of whack so quickly.
Joonie:
Don't know how many doctors you have. However, it wouldn't make any difference how many doctors you have {one doctor should receive the reports from all doctors you see, including all lab results}to evaluate your symptoms and come up with a dx for you.

An uncle of mine passed away a number of years ago and as I read and reread your symptoms your symptoms are almost identical to his. His dx was: TIA strokes. My uncle also suffered from congestive heart failure.

Woman get yourself to a doctor and ask ask ask. TIA strokes aren't anything to mess around with.
I started on the Metopropol, but had to change it because of Raynauds.  Metopropol is not something you can just take here and there...you have to take it regularly and you can't stop it cold turkey...it freaks your body out.  When they took me off it and changed my meds, I had to gradually reduce my dosages, but when you come off it, it can cause symptoms like you are describing.  Even with me tapering mine down, I ended up in the ER because I was feeling dizzy, light headed, etc.  This is one drug you have to take as prescribed and not play around with, because it can mess you up.Poor Joonie,

I honestly don't know how you deal with all the health challenges you encounter- feel better soon.

Metoprolol may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • dizziness or lightheadedness
  • tiredness
  • depression
  • upset stomach
  • dry mouth
  • stomach pain
  • vomiting
  • gas or bloating
  • heartburn
  • constipation
  • rash or itching
  • cold hands and feet
  • runny nose

Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:

  • shortness of breath
  • wheezing
  • swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • unusual weight gain
  • fainting
  • rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat

Metoprolol may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at http://www.fda.gov/MedWatch/index.html] or by phone [1-800-332-1088].

Hi, I suffered from severe dizziness, with nystagmus (jerky eye movements) and vomiting last summer, which started whilst lying in bed one morning, the episode was incredibly frightening, and I thought I was having a TIA (small stroke) at the time.  I worked as a medical secretary in a TIA clinic so I knew enough of the symptoms to be very scared.  After investigations and taking loads of Stemitil (anti-sickness drug), an ENT consultant diagnosed labrynthitis.  The dizziness episodes continued for several months.  It was a very very scarey time, I felt at the time that it would never go away, but eventually it did.

This happened 4 months prior to my joints aching/fatigue and everything else that has followed.  I've always wondered whether this was in some way a precursor to what is happening to me now??  Did my immune system attack my labrynth??  I don't suppose I'll ever know the answer to that one.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings.  I hope you find the answer to your problem soon, take care  Hi,

I've just read on the forum that apparently some people with RA can grow crystals in their ears and this causes dizziness etc..  Its a question I shall definitely be asking my rheumy when I see her again.

Hope you'll be better soon, gotta go, my daughter, (she's 4) is making herself a jam sandwich for her supper, and decorating the kitchen with it at the same time!! [QUOTE=joonie]
My post was not meant as an attack on Joonie - not everyone understands how beta-blockers are different from most of the other prescriptions in their medicine cabinet.  Even if you do not have heart disease, stopping a beta-blocker can bring on a heart attack.  My husband still does not entirely understand this, and he is a 52-year old senior manager at a pharmaceutical company.

Just my two cents. Mine sort of was, I'm not going to lie.

I'm aware of Joonie's history and this is NOT the first med, nor the last I'm sure, that she has blatantly not known how to take, or not bothered to know how to take.

It has to end sometime.
With as much has as been happening to Joonie lately, I don't see how she can keep anything straight, so if she messes up on her meds, I can't blame her - she needs somebody doling them out for her!

Good luck with your MRI, and maybe this will finally solve the mystery of all your new symptoms.   And I hope the answer will be less meds to keep up with, not more.  I hope it is something simple, and you will be feeling better soon!
She hasn't messed up her meds "just lately" This is a constant in her life. So I feel no regret in what I said. You all can baby and powder her, and I'll be the evil voice of reason.

No skin off my teeth.

Katie, you're the best 'bad cop' I know around here!

Ok, but I do not think ONE pill is going to cause me any harm. It is not like I have been taking it for months. I just took that ONE pill. And I only took it because EVERYONE around me told me to take it. My BP was fine when I took it.

And when I woke up dizzy Sunday... it was not even time for me to take another one, I still had 9 hours to go. So... it is not like I was going thru withdrawls.

And f**k YOU KATIE!

I have taken ALL of my meds like I was told. Minocin? Oh... an antibiotic. Yeah... I told my RD I stopped taking it and why, she said it was ok.

I told my GP about me not taking another BP pill because my pulse & BP was low and I told him how I got yesterday and he said good. He really did not even know why the ER RXed me such a high dose anyways, since my BP was not over 160.

So... screw you, Katie. I do read ALL the leaflets that come with my RXs. I have said I had before and I do.

I do not ever just stop taking a med if I have been taking it for a few days. I am not a DUMBASS!

Yeah... I guess I should be locked up and straight jacketed and force fed my meds and NEVER EVER be in charge of my own health since I am working on killing myself.

Yep... just kick someone when they are down. I have been telling hubby he needs to get use to being without me because I am not going to wake up one day soon. Yep... I am going to kick the f**king bucket before my 74 year old mother. How nice is that.

Hell... I might even fall and hit my head because of this continous dizziness I have. No it is not from the meds, it goes away when my BP & Pulse is down after taking the BP meds.

But what the f**k do I know. I am just a person who should be dead by now, because well... I am DUMBASS according to someone who acts like she f**kING knows me and EVERY f**kING THING.

I might come back and give ya'll updates on me if not maybe one of my friends off of here will be nice enough to update ya'll.

I do not need anymore added stress from some bitch-tard that acts like she *KNOWS* someone.
Joonie,  The dose they gave you in the ER of the Metatropol was probably more for your high pulse then for the BP...that was why they gave it to me as my pulse was 150.  But, from what I understand, you were on the low does of 50mg...before they finally figured out that I should not be on it because of Raynauds, they had upped my to 200mg a day...and that just got my pulse down to under 100.  My blood pressure was always in the normal range, and I never really saw the meds drop my blood pressure really too low...it just managed to work on the pulse.

I do hope that they can figure out what is going on...I go in tomorrow for a stress test, because they still can't figure out why my pulse is so high, why my rate is irregular, and why I get chest pains.  My cardiologist wants to run the stress test to rule out heart (have already had EKG's, holtor monitors, and ultrasound), and if the heart comes back ok, he is going to be doing an MRI to see if there is any inflammation in my sternum and rib cage from the RA, that could be interferring with my heart and causing the pain.

Please keep us updated and let us know what they find out...sending good thoughts your way.

Edited to add....just saw that you have Raynauds too....let your doctor know about the Raynauds...beta blockers tend to make Raynauds worse and are not recommended.  I am now on a beta blocker that is different...has morealpha blocker properties and does not interfer with the Raynauds....on the Metopropol, it got so bad that my toes turned black and I lost feeling in them...not pretty

Still, beta blockers are different than the other crap in the medicine cabinet.  I'm a bit over-sensitive about this issue because I live with someone who at times plays medication roulette

So... I am not sure about anything at this point.

I am not even sure what I am to do if my left arm goes numb again. I called today to find out and the nurse had attitude with me. Told me I just started the new BP med today, that it did not have time to help with my lowering my BP. I was not worried about that... I wanted to know what I was to do if I had numbness in my left arm again, because I have already had 2 attacks of TIA. She just got attitude with me and told me to take the asprin and I should be fine. And for me to hug walls when I am dizzy. Hello! I am dizzy continuously, it hardly ever goes away!

She was a bitch to say the least.

I decided if I got the numbness and short breathed again, I was going back to the ER. Even though last time they did not much of anything for me. I just wish they would admit me and let me stay overnight, but NO!

Like I said I do not think, my problem lies with my heart. I cannot even feel the palpatations I am supposedly having. All I feel is like my chest is heavy, short of breath, and dizzy/lightheaded and just not feeling well. Kinda feels like an asthma attack to me, but it is not.
Beta-blockers can cause asthma-like symptoms, as they blunt the effects of epinephrine.

Has your doctor said anything about what to do when you run out of the coreg samples?  does he just want you to stop taking them?  If that's the case, you may wind up back in the ER next weekend. No, the asthma like symptoms I have had since I was told I had a pulse rate of 120. I actually had shortness of breath when I was getting my last Remicade infusion. I told the Remicade nurse about it, she said it was probably due to my rapid pulse at the time. I had it way before I even got the infusion that day.

Nope, He did not say much of anything. He was only in the room with me long enough to look at the results of all I had done up to this point, to read what the ER sent over, and to listen to what my symptoms were the night I went to the ER and what they were while I was looking all crazy because I get episodes of like looking catatonic when my BP & Pulse are elevated.

I will find out what he plans on doing with my BP med when I go back to him Thursday.

Yeah, I found out what asprin. I had the NWA (nurse with attitude) call it into the pharmacy for me, because I told her I was having confussion problems. So she called it in for me.

I am to take (1) 325mg asprin everyday. That is what the pharmacist gave me.

Playing around with your meds can have serious side effects, If your doctor has told you to take them in conjunction with other meds then you MUST take them unless you get a bad reaction. Your doctor knows your history and he has examined you and tested you, that is why he has prescribed the meds. I hope you get this all sorted out Joonie and get back to some sort of normality. Dont believe everything you research on the internet either, just listen to your doctor unless you dont trust him.I did not stop taking it because I felt good, my BP & Pulse were too LOW! Not good low, bad low.

My body has been reacting REALLY weird to just slightest change in my BP & pulse.

The ER nurse when I was trying to tell her my symptoms, was slurring at the time, she said I should not be having those kind of symptoms with my BP not even being Stage 2 Hypertentsion. But I was. I had been borderline and stage 1 all that day. I did not get to stage 2 until almost an hour before I went to the ER. I was still having the numbness in my left arm and the right side of my face was getting numbber and it moved up to my forehead. It started out just below my cheek bone and then as I was sitting there in the ER waiting room, I could feel the numbness moving up the side of my face to my forehead. My face is still numb. My left arm has some tingaling in it still.

My GP told me it was good that I did not take another BP pill, because that is what made my BP & Pulse really low, to the point that I had symptoms of low BP. I told him about my symptoms I had Sunday and he said the RX was too high for me. And he did not even know why the ER RXed me such a high dose when my BP was not stage 2.

My top number is always either borderline High or just in the middle of stage 1. My Bottom number is in the stage 1 or stage 2. Which according to GP that is not good. He said the bottom number is what is causing my body to react strange to my BP being borderline.

Now maybe since I am not so lightheaded the computer monitor is not moving on me, and I can think a little straighter, that I can be a little more clear.
Sounds like it was a good thing you didn't take another BP pill...I'm hoping things get better for you, Joonie....you've been having a heck of a time with all this.
