I am hoping to find a time release pain med that I can handle.  I hate morphine.  It makes me so ill.  Oxycontin was effective but my lousy insurance won't pay for it and the withdrawals from going off it were beyond hell.  I was thinking a patch would be good as I have an ulcer.  I have been reading a little about fentanyl.  Any other suggestions? It may not be strong enough for you, but there is an extended release version of Tramadol called Ultram ER.roxy  empty out your pm box. or contact me at glass_worker2000 on yahoo IMHi Roxy, I have helloed you on Joonies MRI thread but will say again, hi, and I hope you are still breezing along, as for your pain relief, I have taken Fentanyl pain patch, I found it did work, but the patch would never stay on and I would have a terrible rash within an hour of putting it on, my GP and I tried everything, Norspan patches (buprenorphine), same results, not all people have problems though, so it might be worth a go.  I take Endone 4 hourly and Tramal as a back up, seeing a pain specialist soon though, as current pain schedule isn't strong enough.  All the best, love Janie.  Sorry, I can't offer any advice or insights but I certainly hope you find relief somewhere - like the sooner the better.  Take Care and  * Gentle Hugs *

hasnt there been a lot of talk about the pain patches giving out to much pain meds?

Sorry your having a rough time Roxy, hopefully they will be able to find something to manage your pain....What are you on now for your RA?

KM....are u thinking about the recall?  There was a problem with some that had a cut along one side of the patch that resulted in the leakage of the fentanyl gel.  I'm still using mine since my pharmacist said mine were not one of the ones that were in the recall.

You do have to be careful though of things that provide heat...like a heating pad or blanket...the heat can speed up the release of the medication.  So things like heated water bed...saunas, hot tubs...etc are not a good idea and have been known to cause some deaths with people using these while using the fentanyl patch.
Kels yea thats what Im thinking of...I couldnt remember the details of it and I knew someone on here would know what Im talking about...There wasalso problems like that w/ the birthcontrol patch tooI am so happy to be off oxycontin as the withdrawals were horrid.  As of now, I am taking percocet, Soma for muscle pain and pain patches that I am embarrassed to say - I do not know what is in them.  I think they are like Ibuprofen.  The bad news is I had to go up 10 mg. of pred.  I have gained 10 pounds in two weeks   I also take Lyrica for fibro which helps, 100 mg. Cymbalta (that just started with my new rd) and I was dx with sojourns (sp) so who knows what that will bring.  All in all, it is all good.  So happy spring is here, I have a good rd, hoping to get back to swimming and after six months in rehab. - my husband is coming home in a month.  I pray for him every day.  So this is probably already TMI.  Thank you for your input and it is good to check in on some of you.  I was gonna say y'all but there are a few on here that I would love to meet in person and have them look me in the eye.

Kathy-  I emptied my box.  I stopped emptying it after receiving lovely messages like this-

Katie does not even know me.  We live in a cruel world and I try to protect myself from this kind of negativity.  Kathy you always have good advice and thank God there are so many on here that have the maturity and kindness to actually support people.  There are so many of you I truly care for.

I definitely saw the response I got.  My mailbox was full of messages of people thanking me for the post and agreeing with me.  I don't crawl.  I stand up for people.
