My joints are awfull. i like to sleep with my arms bent up under me and today my elbows havnt recoverd and its time for bed again! contatly hurt all day long. couldnt sit comfortably in class because of my knees....i always sit cross legged thats the only way i AM comfortable. but i cand o it today. i fell asleep studying AGAIN its been an every day thing lately. there is a good chance i will have to drop a class. i just dont feel like i can deal with this i want to go home. i stopped mtx maybe a month ago. do you think it was workin a little and now its not? i dunno why i am SOOOOO bad. im never good. but this is sig worse. i want prednisone so badly. but it takes me forever to get off it. i need to call my rheumy. im not going to her till mid april. right now for joints im juston effexor and enbrel. still taking folic acid but no mtx. i want a miracle drug sooooooooo bad. i cant deal with this forever.
my doctor told me that using prednisone now may damage bones later, but they can fix that damage with the proper medication.

He said that what it will save from damage today (i have very aggressive ra) will be well worth fixing the bone damage 10-20yrs from now.

just a thought.
Call the rd tell her what is going on and see if you should go to your reg dr, it could be you have an infection and this is causing some of your problems.  Stop crossing your legs, I know that is hard, go to the back of the classroom and sit.  A trick a friend of mine uses with sitting at the back of the room, check with your teacher first to make sure it is ok, she would get up for a few minutes and stretch and walk back and forth while listening to her teacher.   She did this several times during the session.  Make sure to get the teacher's permission explain how you can't sit too long or you stiffen up from the arthritis.  Hang in there but call your RD!!!  meme
And for the falling asleep, are you able to sleep at night?  If not, maybe your dr can give you something to help you sleep.  If you are already sleeping at night, maybe they could give you something to help keep you alert during the day...I hear Provigil has worked well for some people.  I know it's not fun to add meds, but sometimes that's what we need, at least temporarily.

Hopefully you won't need to drop a class, but if you do, or even if you have to drop more than one, that's better than giving up on school altogether. Sometimes it takes us a little longer to do the things we want, but we'll still get them done!

Hang in there...

You need to talk to the dr.  I had RA through college as well.  It presents a whole new set of challanges.  The pred would be helpful.  My RD has told me many times that anything around 10mg will not cause long term side effects.

Seriously, call the dr.  TODAY!!  This is a stressful time-I am assuming you have finals coming up in May.  College alone is stressful-this will add to your symptoms.  I honestly think that I never truly got the RA under control until I graduated.  But...I did make it.  I had a great relationship with my rheumy.  Before you make a decision like dropping a class, talk to your dr. and see how they can help you.  I actually skipped a class to the point of being dropped-it was an 8:30 class across campus.  Just couldn't do it.  I got a pred pack from my RD and got up the nerve to talk to the professor.  I'll admit-the professor wasn't the most understanding individual-but I as allowed to stay in the class. Pulled a C-never had to think about the class again.  The problem with dropping is that you may end up overloading your credits in the future.

Try to take care of yourself.  I know it seems like things are out of your control.  It will get better.

Call your doctor- if you are living in pain your meds need to be adjusted. Don't suffer.
I feel so bad for you- I have kids in college and i just can't imagine them having to deal with RA and everything else college demands.

Feel better!
Thanks. well i might drop the class cause im not doing well in it. ill have to see what i got on the last test. wantobeRAfree, they keep adjusting my meds we just havnt found anything that works its very frustratin!!!I had RA and fibro and MVP during college raising 2 kids on my own (divorded when a sophmore) .....it was EXTREMELY difficult. I missed quite a few days, which is one reason why I did extra research for the profs to keep my grade for "Participation" up.Don't drop the class ask if they will allow you to take the class over ,explain your health issues if you can ask the dr to write you an excuse explaining your health issues and maybe you can still take the class again without paying for it again.  ok here is the thing with dropping the class. its not really because of my health. I have been to every class im just very bad at it! im only going to drop it if i wont pass and there is a good chance that will happen, i need to find out my last exam score first. I dont pay for credit so i wont have to pay for it if i take it during the year. but i probably would take it at home at another school over the summer. health has effected it but its not the whole reason i constantly fall asleep while studying and thats an issue but i DO go to class every day. Keep trying adjustments with the meds- don't give up or settle.
When I first got RA I felt like poor me- I'm only 47! I'm too young for this! When I read about you young girls and even children having to suffer with this disease it just breaks my heart. Now I feel lucky to have had 47 healthy pain free years.

You have really hit a soft spot in my heart because I have kids in college and  I can picture them far away from me suffering with this pain and all the different feelings & emotions that come with RA  and having to deal with it alone...

I really hope you are feeling better soon!
Try asking to take the class as an elective without a grade that way it won't affect your gpa  meme2008-03-26 19:51:26
