OT - Dogs in an eating establishment | Arthritis Information

While listening to a talk show this morning a topic being discussed was allowing people to bring their dogs with them to the eating establishment.
There's a councilman in Minneapolis who is proposing this concept because supposedly there are people he represents in his district that have brought forth this idea.
Does it sound absurd to you?! It certainly does to me.........Why?

To me it would be a form of animal cruelty.  These dogs would be subjected to all the tantalizing aromas of food but they wouldn't be able to have any of the food.  That is unless they were fed under the table - though it would probably eliminate the need for a "doggy bag."

If the dog owners are feeling guilty for not spending quality time for their dogs perhaps they could/should hire a dog sitter. People hire sitters to watch their children, so why not?

Also, find it distasteful to think of all the dander that would be flying around if a dog were to decide he needed to shake.  What about the possible mishaps of the dog. UGH!!

Guess the eating establishments would have the choice as to whether or not they want to allow dogs.  I say that if they do they should be required to provide supervised on-site dog sitting.

That's my thoughts for now.  Back to you all.

Ok wouldnt that be a health hazard?  yea i dont like that idea very muchWhen I was in Holland most restaurants allowed dogs. A lot of them even had special dog dishware and dog menus for the dogs. It was nice.I'm allergic to most fuzzies, so that wouldn't work so well for me.  I also injured myself a few years ago tripping over a puppy who was running under my feet and now I have a permanent hole in my knee cartilage.  Wouldn't want to be a server there.

BTW, years ago when my family would take my aunt and uncle out to dinner (they've since passed away), my uncle would bring his seeing-eye dog and we would often be turned away at the door, despite the law requiring service animals to be admitted.

Just can't win.
Too funny SnowOwl!  Remember when dogs used to just be.....dogs?  We have doggie daycare, dog parks, and dog bars here now.  Oh, and a dog wash.  Well, having washed a dog before, that is a good idea.

I had an art teacher whose dog had a dog....
I love my furbabies, but I wouldnt want them at a dining establishment with me. It's bad enough at home. We got rid of the glass table because of the soulful stares through the table.
Part of what I do is dog sitting and there are some dogs no matter how much you brush them there is hair all over the place .
Could you imagine waiters comming out with huge trays of food and tripping over a dog
the owners would say " Oh , you hurt my little poo poo " and then they sue the owners
over the clumsy waiter hurting little poo poo .
I love my dogs but even at home we dont have them in the diningroom when we eat so I dont think i would like them in a restaurant.Yes dogs should be dogs like the old days.

Have you ever had a dog you really really loved but got an awful ailment that in days gone by could not be  fixed but now with the new medical technology for a mere 00 operation and months of costly treatments you could fix them up? The vets make you feel so guilty when you say...I wish I could but.... You feel cruel to have to put them down.
I do not like dogs; I certainly would not dine at a restaurant that allowed dogs in the dining area (real service dogs are an exception).            ok now im nausous thinkin about dogs in the restruant....yea yuck...sorry as much as i LOVE my doggies yea sorry....Finley *the puppy* goes in his cage and will always go in his cage when we are eating...My moms dog well she just lays on *yes ON* my feet while im eating...doesnt move doesnt beg...so im good w/ that...but Finley being a puppy and will be a big dog *prolly around 65lbs or so* yea that wont work w/ me....
OK seriously who are these people that WANT to bring their animals w/ them to restruants...
Ok i do have to admit my grandfather does that w/ his cat, not brings em to restruants but if its just him and the cats eating he'll let them up on the table and share his food w/ them.....but if anyone else is at the table he doesnt let em come up and they are pretty good about only doing it when its just him..
I'm with Kelly.

I would not eat at a place that allowed this, with the exception of service dogs. I totally love service dogs and never have a problem with them. They're wonderful :)
My mother is one of those nutjobs who insists on taking her dog with her.  She claims it is an "emotional support animal" and that the Americans With Disabilities Act allows her to take it with her wherever she goes.  She puts the dog (a 20-pound bichon frise) into a dog duffel bag and takes it into the grocery store with her.  It's quite embarrassing to hear from my friends that my whackjob mother was in Jewel (grocery store) with the yipping dog again.

And then there is the restaurant issue.  I refuse to go to public places with her.  I refuse to be embarrassed by her dog jumping on other patrons' laps and trying to eat their food.  My mother insists that people love her dog and think it's cute when he does that crap.  If someone's mutt did that to my dinner, I'd be raising holy Hell.

When we were visiting my brother a few weeks back, he asked me to go with him to his doctor's appointment, because my brother has a hard time keeping things straight.  Well, my mother insisted on going as well, and she showed up at his doctor's office with the ****ing dog.  And then proceeded to argue with the doctor about treatment plans and told him repeatedly that she was a retired psych nurse.  The look on the doctor's face was priceless.  He informed my mother that he was working with the liver specialists from the hepatic/gastroenterology team from UW-Madison, and he was going to follow THEIR advice. My mother's "service animal" also peed all over my brother's house... as if he needs any more problems at this point. I think it is crazy to take your dog everywhere, when we were in florida last I just about died at how many women carry their dog in their purses through the malls shopping.  I am sorry I wouldn' want that.  Just think if little "Fluffy" couldn't wait to go and you put your hand in the bag hahahah i can see it now Katie...you putting the kitties in one of those purse things for dog...omg the sounds that would be coming from them LOLV-E-T-O!!

I *love* animals, but no way would I want to eat in an establishment that allowed anyone who wanted to bring in their furbaby. Certified service dogs, not a problem. Everyone else who feels guilty going out to a restuarant without taking Fluffy, order a damn pizza and stay home.
LOL imagine if you threw a dinner party and one of your guests showed up with an emotional support dog.

My mother has done just that very thing!!!!! Shannon, she'd shred not only my FACE but my soul. She can be an evil baby! LOLOMG i just remembered...we were in Frys electronics store and I kid you not...there was this woman all in her fancy shmancy designer work out clothes pushing a stroller w/ a net over it....ok thought nothing of it till i saw the f-ing DOG....in a STROLLER...i mean come on now seriously....i had to try soooo hard not to bust out laughing...Kelsay goes "mommy why is there a dog in a stroller" as we were walking awayJas I think it would be one thing if they were trained and you heard NOTHING of them the whole night *kinda like husbands when a ball game is on*OMG!! We saw a couple pushing an empty stroller and CARRYING their dog the other day!!! Shannon, did you answer Kelsay with "because some people have emotional attachment issues...."

MWUAHAHAHAHAH yeah I'm goin' to hell...*sigh*
no I wasnt sure what to say to that one Katie...but the look on her face was hysterical she looked at me like think WTF? LOL

ok pushing an empty stroller and carrying the dog...ive got nothin for that one LOL Maybe some of these people need to be commited for these "emotional issues"
And ya know, there's a mall near Boulder that has a kiosk just for dogs... and they specialize in doggy-strollers! They almost look like mini shopping carts! It's crazy!!Ya know, there are some people's CHILDREN I wouldn't want to be around while eating out.

And yet here we are, talking about frickin' DOGS. *sigh*
Ya know, there are some people's CHILDREN I wouldn't want to be around while eating out.
Jad did you hear about the a beach in one of the northern burbs that has a "child free" part of the beach?
I know about the "unofficial" gay nude beach up in Zion; didn't know there was a child-free section of a beach too.  Sounds like a good idea!
That would be AWESOME! LOL

And I LIKE kids! I swear! I just don't like them screaming or snotting all over while I'm trying to eat. Ya know.

We ate at Friday's one night, and it seemed like EVERYONE had their kids out. And no one had control over them. Except one family, who sat ever so quietly and so politely. They had 3 boys, somewhere between the ages of 9ish and 17ish. They were SO WELL BEHAVED!!!

I had to compliment her before I left, because I could see she was noticng all the "heathens" too. She just busted up laughing and said, "I've been thanking them myself, because this is NOT normal!!"

Another time, we were at Denny's, and 2 ladies came in with a total of 5 kids. All under 5yrs old. Those were the best behaved kids I've seen in a long time. They sat at the "bar" while the moms and the infant (I guess that makes 6 kids really) sat at a table behind them. Only ONCE during the hour and a half we were there did either one of the moms have to say anything to the kids!! And all it was, was "please sit still, you're going to drop your drink" Pfffftttt!!! I was impressed!
I just read the front page of the Star Tribune (Mpls Paper) and along with the story is a picture of a woman who has her dog in the chair next to her and they're sharing brunch.   I don't think I want to be sitting next to someone feeding their dog little tidbits from their plate.   Service dogs are perfectly fine, but I'm fine with the rest not being at the table next to me.   Not to mention - true "service dogs" (seeing eye dogs, etc) are specially trained NOT to beg for food, pee on the floor, interact with others, etc.  When they're out with their person, they are at work, not out for lunch with the girls.
