So... I went for my appointment, and took my mom with me so she could keep up with what was said since I am having a hard time doing that of lately.

He said I did have a stroke over the weekend and there was nothing that could be done about it now. He said my blood pressure must have spiked high at one point and that is what caused me to have the small stroke. He did not refer to it as a TIA, he said small stroke, and not mini stroke either. He said small stroke.

He said nothing can be done about the one that I had over the weekend. All that can be done now is to keep me from having another, and to take the asprin & BP meds and get my BP & pulse under control. Which today when I went to him it was 140/94 pulse 129 and that was even with taking my BP pill this morning at 7am.

He said the 2 "nodules" on my thyroid are of concern. I have 2 big nodules one on each side of my thyroid. They were of concern because they are over 1 cm in diameter. So... I am being sent off to a doctor who specializes in that area. He said they are going to possibly biopsy them, to see if they are malingnat (sp?).

He upped my BP med to 40mg and gave me an RX.

I am still to have my heart ultrasound on april 9th. I go back to see him the same day as the ultrasound, I think... I will have to look at my calendar.

All my other ultrasounds looked good he said. He said my HPB is not caused from thyroid or any blockages in my renal or carotid.

He said I was a little young to have a stroke but with me having J/RA it increases my odds to have one and some other diseases he looked for on the MRI. Something that had to do with blood vessels in the brain becoming inflammed with inflammation. Said there was no sign of that.

So... there you have it. I am a little closer to finding out why my BP & pulse are high. I asked why it would just all of a sudden go high like they are now, and he said he did not know yet and that is what he is trying to find out.

My goodness. Enough is enough. Prayers going up.Joonie: I'm sure you're asking why oh why oh why!!  Wish "gentle hugs" would make you all better.  Take Care *hugs* Good Luck Joonie. Take it easy and keep taking your meds. Don't forget the asprin! That will help you too.

I'm bothered that he says "ah, you have these two things on your thyroid here..." and then turns around and says there's no way your thyroid is causing the high BP. Just keep that one on your brain okay? Don't give up that easy, it very well could be your thyroid. I'm kinda shocked he said that. He's ruling out a very possible answer! Just don't forget about that possible connection, even if he doesn't think that's what it is.
He is ruling it out because my TSH came back normal and so did it when I was in the ER. The tested my thyroid too while I was there. So that is what he is basing his opinion on, that my TSH is normal. I do not forget my pills. With HBP you sit and wish it was time for an BP pill. to make the dizzy/lightheadedness go away. Yeah but you have something ATTACHED to your thyroid? Did I understand that? Or is it just NEAR it?

Cause if it's attached it may not be effecting your thyroid at all times. It could cause your sudden spikes though, and you wouldn't really catch that on one test.

Am I makin' sense?
I'm so sorry for that news, Joonie, but relieved you don't have damage from it.  I hope the BP med will control things, good news about the ultrasounds, and hang in there until your next appt.!  You are in my thoughts and prayers.Hi Joonie, I feel very sad hearing your latest news, please continue to take care, and at least you are in good hands, I will keep up the prayers for you, hugs Janie.XX So so sorry you are going threw this. If you feel this way ever again they say to call an ambulance and ask for a stroke hospital specifically. As some hospitals are not set up for strokes and what good does it do you to go to the wrong place. Because quick care is essential. Take that bloodpressure regularly. I will keep praying for you. Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the prayers everyone. They are greatly appreciated and needed. I'm so sorry you're going through this, Joonie.  Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!Sorry you have to go through all this Joonie.  But I'm glad you had proactive doctors who are taking it all seriously and running tests to figure out what is going on.

In the meantime, try not to let yourself get too scared.  Being scared and worrying will just make your blood pressure go up.  Take it easy, watch your diet (I'm sure they have told you to avoid caffeine, salt, etc.) and find things to do that keep your mind off of all of this.  Try to stay away from taking your BP frequently, because stressing about it will make it go higher.  Distraction is always good.

Play some games with your kids, read some books with them, watch TV, and do things that you will have fun doing.   And just rest and take it easy.  And make sure to check in with us, so we know how you're doing!

Holy cow, woman!! I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this. I'm glad as well that the doctors are running all these tests to try and figure out what's going on. I hope they're able to make a determination quickly so you're able to get on the right meds and get on with a "normal" life. Keep us all in the loop. Many gentle hugs to ya! Joonie...gosh..I am so sorry for you! I am glad there isn't any lasting damage and hope you can be ok...keep the doctors informed and write down on a daily log how you feel.

Take care of yourself...and know that I am praying and care about you a lot!!!
Joonie, I am also thinking of you and remembering you in my prayers.  I am also remembering your whole family in my prayers and asking that our higher power gives them strength to endure all of this.
Be extra good to yourself......
Hugs~~~~~~
Joonie - you are in my thoughts and prayers.  I am very glad you got such great care from your doctors.  CathyWOW Joonie! I'm real sorry to hear all this. Glad your getting good care....and your Momma's there with you and was able to go to the appointment with you. How long will she be able to stay with you?

How's your husband reacting to the news.

Take good care. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Prayers sent Joonie. God is watching over you.  Joonie, I'm sorry you are having to go through all this. It sounds like  you have good doctors who are taking action. How long is your mom staying with you? Try to have a little fun together. I agree with hillhoney...distraction is a great way to help keep bp from going up. Stress is bad, fun is good. Remember that. Do what you enjoy! I will be praying for you and your family. Luv ya girlie!

Wow, that's a lot on your plate. I'm really sorry, Joonie. Like everyone else, I'm glad your doctors are on the ball with it, and I'm glad you have such a supportive husband and family to help you through this time. I agree with Hillhoney, too, although it's probably pretty difficult to get distracted. I'll send positive thoughts into the universe for you (the agnostic's version of prayer).Hugs and Prayers!  On hon, I'm glad for your sake that it isn't TIA, but it sucks that you had a stroke.  I'm glad that your doctors are treating you well, and hopefully it won't happen again! *soft hugs*_popupControl(); Joonie,  I'm so sorry you're having these problems.  I always enjoy reading you posts and I notice you respond often to others with problems.
I think knowlege is power and the fact your doctors now know what they're feaaling with can make a big difference.  Good luck!  I'm thinking of you.
or dealing with, lolJoonie: Has any doctor ever ordered a fasting cholestrol test? Clogged arteries are a major cause of high blood pressure.
On the outside chance your high blood pressure is the result of the remicade your high blood pressure should have been cause for concern by your doctor.
Oh joonie, hugs, hugs and more hugs!  I'm going to send some healing energy your way ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Like Lovie, I'm wondering if your mother can stay around awhile.  Always nice to have that comfort.
Joonie as far as the nodules go, keep in mind that 1 cm is the standard measurement for testing.  In other words it's a little bit arbitrary.  They had to come up with a standard for biopsies and 1 cm has become it

I'm not saying blow it off, but I just wanted you to keep that in the back of your head.  Good-luck with everything Oh goodness! Praying for hard for you! Joon, are you feeling any better today?Sorry to hear you had to experience that.  But I am glad to read the doc is taking it serious.  And I hope he continues to do so.

Good luck.
Thanks for the prayers, they are GREATLY appreciated.

I am a little better now, but still something going on. I am trying to get use to my right side of the face feeling weird. and my left arm being weak and tingling when I use it. It feels like it goes to sleep when I use it, you would think it would stay awake being in use LOL!

I am still having a lot of memory problems, and just my brain not feeling like it is functioning properly. so... we will see! [QUOTE=joonie]Thanks for the prayers, they are GREATLY appreciated.

About the "something on your thyroid" ... maybe an MRI or something is in order?  You also have parathyroid glands anywhere in your neck region which could have something on them.  Please don't let this be dismissed.  Have your doc research this more and make sure that you are fine in the thyroid and parathyroids.  Problems with both/either can cause Hypertension

Good luck!!

It is not being dismissed. GP is sending me off to someone who specializes in that area. I have not gotten appt yet, because the place he is referring me to, their computers were down when they called to setup my appt. I should get a call back by Monday, if not I will call GP's office monday afternoon, to make sure they did not forget about me.
