Knee Pain Talk | Arthritis Information

I was reading in another post about knee pain, it was getting a little long and didn't know if people would see this so i started my own.

I was reading and saw that others had sharp pains in the middle of the knee and was wondering if this was normal?

I have never EVER had it before all this time, but right now i get this sharp pain like someone took a steak knife and keeps stabbing it in the middle of the knee cap.  It isn't like my regular pains, they are strong and bold, but this one is like sharp sharp sharp, my legs try and collapse on me when it hurts.  I try to put a thin brace that usually holds the knee cap from hurting but doesn't seem to work on this one.

Is this a normal RA knee pain?
......there's normal RA pain!?!?!? *looks excited* May I have some please? LOL

I'm teasin' ya ;-)

I get that pain a lot, but I have no idea if it's considered normal or not. What you just described, is what I was talking about in my other post! And I get it in my ankle and wrist too. Only mine is acompanied(sp) by extreme cold too, which I find really odd.

Does your knee get cold????? (I want someone to be like me...LOL)
Hi Bubbagump, I can definitely relate to what you're talking about. I need a knee replacement but the knee surgeon says I'm too young so he's trying to buy time with a custom knee brace that he prescribed . The pain you describe is pretty accurate to what I feel. I have no cartilage left in my knee and there's alot of RA and secondary OA going on. Have you had a recent X-ray to see if you have new damage?  Oh and my surgeon told me that the sharp pain that freezes me in my tracks is my body's way of protecting me. I have a good bit of that recently too. I have OA in my knees as well as RA problems....not sure which is which anymore. I tend to think the increase over the last year is from OA. I get a little confused by it all. I'm only 37 and have never been really athletic so it's not due to that so what's caused it? The RA itself? Curious.

I am also having a problem with what is likely a bakers cyst behind on knee. I had one years ago that was relieved by cortisone injections. I might have to do that again. Anyone have bakers cyst?
bubba :(  my knees do weird things every so often, but no pain like you are describing.  ouch CathyLovie I get them! But I'm a lucky duck. I'm a "rest it and it'll go away on it's own" person. I've never had to do anything more than brace it for a few days. Though, since I've had the 3 SUPER bad ones, I'm ultra paraniod so when I *think* I'm getting one, I brace up right away.

I really think that's helped cut down on them.

Thanks everyone.

I went and had my bone density scan today and that lady was soooooooooo nice, wish she worked for my RA doctor.

Anyway, she looked over the x-ray thing after and then gave me a speach about the differences in damage and how there are 2 steps to osteoperosis (probably spelled wrong I am sure, i suck at spelling) and she made it sound like i should expect a talk from my doctor.

So, it is possible, i guess, that the pain i feel is that.  I was diagnosed a few years ago, but have had knee problems my entire life, so the wear on them is far ahead of the other ra problems.  Pre started.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but that pain does feel like bone on bone.
I have that pain in the knee!!  it's the worst when I am walking up and down stairs  UGH.

bubba ...what was your "score" at the density scan?  I just had one this year too.  I was "under" 1 so that meant I was "okay"  and my technician was very very nice too..  I just discovered her son is playing lacrosse with mine.
I get a sharp pain in the middle of my knee when it flares.  It feels like my bones are scraping together. They didn't give me a score, just a long talk on the bone arthrtis.  She said my doctor will tell me the results.I've had two bone density scans and each time I've gotten worse. It's still in the osteopenia stage; but my hips are worse.

They've only scanned my hips. Have you guys had your whole body scanned? I wonder how the reast of my body is.

It can effect the knees too?
