OT - Dreams REALLY mean something? | Arthritis Information

*LAST OT OF THE DAY, I SWEAR!!!* (Sorry I just have a lot on my mind!!)

I know we've joked and talked about weird dreams before, but this is a little more serious, I think?

When my allergies were so bad with my ears a couple weeks ago I kept having nightmares that I would wake up completely deaf. It was so bad, that it'd consume my thoughts on my way to work everday, and I was actually thinking of HOW I'd have to change and live my life if I woke up without my hearing. *sigh*

So the allergy meds are working and those dreams have stopped.

NOW I'm having dreams that I wake up totally mute. Not even a sore throat, just my voice is GONE.

Am I nuts? LOL
  Not nuts...

Preoccupied maybe??

I've done the same thing recently!  I think we need to find a hobby...

Dreams definitly mean something....Go to a dream interpretation site and see what those mean...

Katie waking up not being able to talk....we would be so lucky Shannon, bite me. :)

If I have a dream where I'm blind..............I dunno. But it would be hilarious. How do you dream "blind"

What would I see? I mean..........that's not much of a dream now is it.......Ever try the presciption nasal allergy sprays along with the antihystimes? Yep. I'm a GIGANTIC failure at nasal sprays. I ingest way more than I inhale. Usually makes me puke, too.

I know, I know "you're not doing it right" Dood, I've tried, believe me. I just don't get it apparently. MY PERSONAL BELIEF........is that I can't physicall do it. There's something minorly wrong with that flap in my throat that goes between your windpipe and your food pipe. I'm constantly gagging on food, and swallowing air, etc etc etc.
u a nut.

u need mental help.

i say seek mental help soon.
So maybe you have asthma. That is maybe what is wrong with your flap. I gag and puke and all that stuff if i do not use my inhaler.Anyway my first Asthma attack was from out of control allergies. But asthma has imflamation and mucus along with it as does the allergies of course. And when i use my inhaler it takes that trickle of snot or what ever out of the back of your throat and some of the scatchy swelling that is causing your gagging. That is a guess. That is just my situation. Just saying not really your flapper but you know. Yes the nasal spray does eventually go down your throat and i gag on it also when my asthma is bothering. So i just use my inhaler first thing in the morning. If i do not it would gag and puke before i even got to my nasal spray a third of the time. And reflux and allergies kind of go hand in hand also. So sorry. Allergies like you are having is just no fun at all.I don't think I have asthma. I don't have any asthma symptoms.

Just that issue with that stupid flap. How annoying!!

(kind of like this yathink person, who is OBVIOUSLY someone's "alter ego" btw)
One may think that you have lost your ability to speak up for yourself in some way.  Or that you are feeling powerless when you talk?  That is what a dream sight would probably say.

Now...with allergies and with RA and PA especially...you can build up inflamation in the folds of the vocal cords.  This will cause hoarseness and is usually surrounded by a flare...it can feel like your glands are swollen...could this be a possibility?  Try some hot tea of the peppermint persuasion before turning in for the night...peppermint is an amazing anti-inflamitory for the throat and stomach.  Also...if you have one of those microwavable wrap things or one of the stick on ones put it in the front to the back and then lay down...don't laugh it helps a lot.
I had more trouble with the above inflamation when I was teaching full time...but I can imagine your day is spent on the phone and with customers now...it does make sense, and allergies will contribute to this inflammation too.
But that's the thing, my voice is fine. I just keep having all these dreams where I lose one of my senses. And I've never had a dream like that. I just think it's strange.

I'm the kind of person who has the REALLY REALLY outrageous dream. The ones you tell someone and they look at you like you're been sniffing glue all day. And I'm used to those! They crack me up and I'm always ready for 'em. But these "almost real" ones are really...........weird.
arriscolwell2008-03-27 20:50:51Maybe you have been sniffin glue?

I have weird dreams. I have been having a lot of them since Saturday. I do not remember them, but I know I had them. Which is quite strange for me because I always remember a piece or good bit of my dreams. But as of lately nothing not a darn thing. I like when I dream and be able to tell people about them. Especially my hubby. Even though he says I am a nut because of what I tell him of my dream.

To dream that you're deaf means that you feel secluded from the world or that you are cutting yourself off form experiences.  To dream that you're mute means that you are afraid to express yourself for fear of being judged.

That's what my handy dandy online dream dictionary says anyway.
Oh!! I have a dream book some where. I bought it back when I wanted to know what dreaming about a serial killer chasing you in a hospital meant. Yeah... I did not find the answers to that dream in that book Someone chasing you means that you're running away from something.  I don't know if a hospital stting has any significance.

I don't know Katie.  Maybe it's something that just hasn't surfaced yet, ya know?  Whatever it is, if that's even the real reason behind your dreams, it'll come to you.

Katie? You cannot call Link... Link-a-doodle! Come up with your own pet name for her LOL! Only thing I have left to hold on to. Thinking of new names for people is getting harder and harder to do. LOL!I had a bad dream of course i was taking an antideppresant for sleep this was several years ago. My dad and ex were both very possive and i did want to get away from them and have more freedom. So i have this dream i am running form them and they have the entire national guard and army chasing me. Well the problem is my shoes would not match. Like i had a high healed knee high boot on one foot and a sandle on the other. It was very irritateing the shoe problem when you are running from the army. LOL I had to quit taking the medicine all of the running at night was waring me out. Never could get the shoes right.lol....I studied dreams in college. The theory I go with is while you are asleep, your brain sort of recaps the day...lol more or less.... in a nutshell that is it.

anyway, the theory goes that your brain works on solving a problem you had or an event as it sort of "scans" your brain parts. When you are problem solving and cannot find a solution your brain compares the new info with older info ( experiences ect.) to try and resolve the problem.

The dreams occur  in REM which is the deepest  and restoative sleep stage. When you have a dreamwhere you cannot hear or cannot see, it is reflective of what you are currently experiencing on one of the three conscious levels.

I always looked at it as a matching game. The same recurring dream usually represents a recurring problem or a constant in your life. Meds can and do alter dreams!

That's it in a nutshell anyway. It is a very complicated and involved process to learn about. THere are tons of books out there on it too, and a lot more research than used to be. THis particular research was new at the time but has finally been accepted through the medical community.

It has to do with survival and our innateness to evolve as humans.

Dream interpretation has never been proven. But I know I dream a lot about my fears. So maybe try clearing your mind before you go to bed. I wouldn't say that you should look up the dreams though and scare yourself. Freud had some interesting ideas and theories, but the dream theory is not upheld in psychology and most psychologist do not put a lot of weight on it. However Psyciatrist do, so it depends on who you want to listen too. Psyciatrist give the meds out and have a medical degree not a psychology degree, and psychologist have studied psychology in depth. True, I just stick with...oh I had a bad dream...or...oh I had a really good dream! lol

You DO NOT want to get buried in trying to figure out dreams.......many a folk have lost their minds on that....lol.....there is no way to prove it.....period. Although researchers have been doing brain imaging along with subject interpretation of the dream they had.....but ....I just leave it at , good dream or bad dream.

It was fun to study though.
hmmm i wonder what it means when you dream about killing a dinasour...yea had that dream when i was a kid...

jode..now you said that dreams happen during REM sleep....now is there a connection between not achieving the REM sleep and not remembering your dreams?
To remember your dreams you have to think about them right as your wake up. If you fail to do so you wont remember. I should remember the exact name...sorry. If you don't sleep too deeply you may not even be dreaming. maybe kelseyy, never thought of that. A lot of people do not remember their dreams. Some never remember their dreams. I always do.

Last night, I was driving ( I am always driving in my dreams) and we were in a weird car and these boxy looking spaceships ( I know so juvenile eh?) came swirling around us.

Well I paniced cause I was driving this huge houselike car, and I asked Jeff ( former bfriend's brother who knows aviation) if he knew what type of plane they were. He said no.   he was with wife and all his family was there....anyway, the aircraft, 5 in all kept  doing circles  around us and  they finally crashed.

Another group came up an dcame to the drivers seat which was me and I went over by Tim and my daughter in the front seat , and these weird looking ppl poked in the driver window an d wanted us all to support some event that was happening..........weird! Then they went away and my foot got caught cause I had my barn boots on with nails poking out of them then I got hit in the leg with a nail gun................and it hurt soooo bad.

I don;t even WANT TO KNOW WHAT IT MEANS!!!!!!! lolololol

jodejjr2008-03-28 14:52:03So I had a dream last night that I was choking.

Woke up, and was gasping for air, it felt like my throat was closing up. I got up and drank some SUPER ice cold tea. On the first few drinks, it BARELY glided down my throat. After about half the glass, it was like drinking normally.

WHAT THE HELL MAN! I was also REALLY sore and stiff and puffy. *sigh*

So my throat was swollen in my sleep last night? Pffttt. STUPID.

I took my Zyrtec today, and feel SUPER. I'm starting to wonder about the allergy connection - like SERIOUSLY wonder. Because so far, on the benadryl and now the zyrtec, I have *zero* swelling.

Seems odd, doesn't it? I'll be taking Benadryl before bed tonight, and I bed I don't wake up sore and stiff etc etc etc. Last night was the first night in a long time that I DIDN'T take it.
Are you having an allergic reaction to an allergy med or another med? Or a food. If your throat feels like it is swelling shut? I only have ever heard of an allergic reaction to something you ingested doing that. I know you are not me i am really odd. But i am allergic to some antihystimines. I don't think so :( It came on really slowly, and went away with a little cold water.

I would think an allergic reaction would come on fast, wouldn't it? Plus, I had taken the Zyrtec WAY WAY early in the day. It was pretty much out of my system at that point.

NORMALL I take benadryl before bed, but I forgot last night. Makes me think the allergy meds were keeping some kind of swelling away.

Plus there's the whole thing about how when I take the allergy meds, I feel like a million bucks, with NO swelling. *sigh* I dunno. It's a mystery.
If it works it works. My neuro told me to keep taking the allergie pill during my stiffness. Also when ever i have an allergic reaction the first thing to do is keep a lot of water in me it sort of thins things out so it's not as strong of a reaction. I am also pron to getting RA attack during hayfever season. Keep up on your vitamin C. That is also a natural antihystimine. You know, now that I really think about it, the 2 places my RA was the worst was England, and here (FL)

That's also the two places my allergies have been horrific.

Hmmmmmmm..............
How long did you live in England? I am thinking you said your dad was in the military?Yeah, he was.

The first time I was there was a little over 2 years. That's when I had my leg splints and it was the worst >.<

The second time I was there for 4 years - thats when I didn't say anything and just plodded along taking Lodine, and some other NSAIDs. They took away the swelling, but nothing else. But I never said anything about the pain and fatigue. (at the time, I had no idea it was REALLY related)

And then we moved here and I was alright for about 3 years, and then WHAM my allergies went nuts and that's about when I turned 19 and things started "creeping" back in with the RA.

My doc at the time said that FL is one of the worst states for allergies, and he constantly saw people who lived their whole lives without allergies, suddenly gain them when they moved to FL.

My poor mother was just MISERABLE here. When she moved to WI, she was able to drop her allergy meds completely! Of course, now she's back on them. LOL Poor momma!
