HI ,JUST WONDERING IF YOU SUFFER WITH RHUEMATISM AND ARTHRITS TOGETER IS IT RHUEMATOID ARTHRITIS ? LOVE CONFUSED DIANA Hi Diana,

"Rheumatism" is an old term.  From wikipedia:

The term "rheumatism" is still used in colloquial speech and historical contexts, but is no longer frequently used in medical or technical literature; it would be fair to say that there is no longer any recognized disorder simply called "rheumatism".
Whereas rheumatoid arthritis is a recognized inflammatory autoimmune disease.  From wikipedia:
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is traditionally considered a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the joints.
I hope that clears things up a bit for you.

-Joy

THANKS JOY IT HAS HELPED ,MY DOCTOR SAID THAT I HAD GOT RHUEMATISM IN MY MUSCLES AND LIGAMENTS AND ARTHRITIS IN MY JOINTS HE  SAID THAT I HAVE GOT IT ALL OVER MY BODY AND HE SAID IT WILL GET WORSE AS I GET OLDER LOVE DIANA Muscular rheumatism is an old name for fibromyalgia. I think you will probably want to clarify the specific diagnoses. If this is coming from a GP you should go to rheumatologist for followup.   Did your doctor talk with you about treatments available or order any tests upon which he based his diagnosis.   I agree, you should be seen by a rheumatologist.Or you could visit www.roadback.org as I have come to believe that rheumatic conditions are caused by a mycoplasma and can be treated with low-dose antibiotics.  I don't buy into the "immune system attacks our bodies" theory.  It's our immune system trying to fight, encapsulate, and purge our bodies of a "germ/disease starter" that is overwhelming our systems and needs help via antibiotics.  Pencillin was hailed as a miracle drug when it was introduced.  All just in my humble opinion of course - good luck ~~ CathyMY DOCTOR WANTS TO SEE ME AGAIN IN 3 WEEKS TIME ABOUT MY CONDITION HE WANTS TO SEE IF THE ETODOLAC 600MG IS HELPING ME ,SHALL I ASK ABOUT SEEING A RHUEMATOLOGIST LOVE DIANAI would. The better you cover all the bases, the more likely you will stay functional. The average doctor doesn't know how to treat RA long term and what might be best for you. Thanks mab52 ,justsaynomore, hillhoney for writing back to me love diana
