Naproxen, my new best friend | Arthritis Information

I have been feeling wonderful wonderful wonderful (RA wise), ok, i'm still about a 7.5 out of 10 but when i was a 10 for years, barely moving, this is wonderful wonderful wonderful.

But, i thought it was my arava lol.

Until this morning, horribly hurting, i took my morning meds and BOOM, within the next hr or 2, i was doing better, and i realized that was what was doing it.

I have to take my zantac and my prilosec daily (zantac 2 times a day) but it is just great.  I am so sorry i stopped taking this type of med 6 months ago.
Naproxen is one of my best allies in the fight against pain.  Sometimes her buddies Tramadol and Vicodin have to stop by too, but usually Naproxen can hold her own. I was honestly shocked at how much it does.  Celebrex, ibuprofen and meloxicam didn't even come close for pain and it is just so nice to take the edge off.I'm glad to hear you are feeling so good. Glad it's working for you. Naproxen doesn't seem to have enough muscle for me. I was doing the prescribed 1000. Max is supposed to be 1500 and I probably needed that just to cope. It wasn't enough for me eitherGlad it works so well for you, BubbaGump! Hope it continues to help you. I have tried all compareable drugs of the same type and none worked for me and some caused bad reactions.  I only take 500mg of naproxen sodium, I didn't know if i could take more, can you really take up to 1,500mg?

And thank you so much for the best wishes :)
The 1500 is the max recommended in the Merck Manual. I'm sure that's divided dosage wise. I was prescribed 500 twice daily. In desperation I did 1000 down the hatch a couple of times.

Naproxen is tough on the tummy. Best to take after eating if it bothers your stomach.

If what you are doing works stay with it. I'd talk to your doctor if you want to/need to up the dosage.  Naproxen is good stuff and the price is right too.
Thanks for the info.  My rhummy doesn't help, in fact it's been over 6 months (about) since they put me on arava and i haven't seen her once, i just go in monthly and a lady takes my blood and the nurse calls with results.

So, I basicly treat myself with the other meds.  My family doctor prescribes the prednisone and tells me to use naproxen or ibuprofen or whatever i want from the family in the right doses cuz the RA doctor could care less.  If it didn't take me 3hrs to get to the next one, i would go to them.

Anyway, thanks sooooo much for the info, i will stay at what i am right now cuz it is working ok for me.

Bubba - I read recently and posted that supposedly Aleve (naprosyn) is the best for RA of the OTC "aspirins/NSAIDS/pain relievers" to take.  I started using it to substitute for one dose of my Ultram during the day, and its worked great so far.  I want to keep my pain medications to a minimum as I know someday I will need the big guns.  Glad you are getting some relief and answers.  Cathy
