I read here sometime ago about mtx causing mouth sores, what are they like?  I have never had any problems with mouth sores while taking mtx. but the last week or so, something is wrong.  please explain what the sores feel like.  I am due to take my 4th or 5th remicade infusion on tomorrow.  Should I keep the appointment or question the mouth sores?

Thanks
I'd have the nurse peek at the sores before you start just to be sure....but it's probable no big deal.

I've had basically cold sores on the outside of my lips since I was really young. I don't really think MTX make mine any worse; but maybe. Some people call them fever blisters or canker sores inside the mouth. They can be very very painful at times.
When on MTX I had mouthsores. THey were like canker sores, hurt terribly too. Rinsing with salt water helps. I would keep your appt. for the Remicade, just let them know about the mouthsores.

For me, the best solution for mouth sores - ulcers - is to make up a strong brew of dried yogurt starter in water.  Keep it in your mouth for a minute or so before swollowing.  Do this a few times a day.  Ulcers heal quickly for me doing this and the yogurt mix, being a probiotic, is very good for your digestive system.

Before being elegible to start on Humira a few months ago I HAD to try another course of gold injections alongside a few other meds.

Definitely go to your appointment and tell them of the sores.
like canker sores, or like when you bite your cheek, but they wont heal it seems like. I use a good bland mouthwash and warm salt water, and take folic acid  I get mine OTC and take 4 tablets..With mine, all my gums get really tender and bleed when I brush them, and I get painful little spots on the tip of my tongue, and ulcers elsewhere in the mouth, but they go away as quickly as they appear.  Best of luck, Janie.
Yes, they hurt and feel like Canker sores, yogurt helps and of course the folic acidThat's a common chemo side effect. They checked my mouth every time I went for chemo. Definitely tell the doctor about it, but I wouldn't postpone treatment unless they feel you should. You can buy a mouth rinse, such as Vince, at any pharmacy. I stocked up on this when I went for chemo, but never needed it. hi mae mae i got mouth ulcers while on mtx inside of lips turned bright red to..and gp gave me Daktarin oral gel
works great for me...    Boney
