OT: Celiac People | Arthritis Information
I was wondering if any of your and/or family members have gotten diarrhea when gluten free?
I have been gluten free for a few days or so now and my stomach freaked out today. I didn't eat anything but there might have been a cross contamination, i'm just not sure.
Thanks.
It will take some time for your body to recover from the gluten -- more than a few days -- think weeks. The lining of the intestine is damaged from the long-term gluten exposure and takes time to recover. My sis-in-law switched to gluten free after a celiac diagnosis a month ago and is only now feeling better.
Like RA treatments, you have to give it some time.
Thanks. I keep reading articles that say changes start in 3 days, but they don't say what changes. But now i understand. The pain in the lower right is now gone and less pressure up against my uterus too which is very very nice as well as bowel movements looking better (except this setback).
But, i will keep that in mind. I have lost 5lbs in the last 3 days as well, all water edema. I am measuring my swellings to see how much they change too.
I do have slightly more energy too which is wonderful.
Thanks again.
I was told it can take up to 6months for your body to completely recoup from glueton. I have celiacs and it is very hard to be completely glueton free. Even the glue on stamps has glueton in it so when you lick the stamp you get some glueton. Meds also can have glueton in it. But our body tolerates some to an extent in some people (not me unfortunetky and I fight stomach problems all the time)..... So give it awhile to clear your systemI'm so glad you are feeling better. You will find that you have more and more energy and just feel better over-all. My brother-in-law bounced back so well that his road cycling got so strong that everyone threatens to make him drink a beer!
(Speaking of beer, you can get gluten-free beer. My husband doesn't care for it, but his brothers enjoy it on a hot summer's day. Wish my hubby would -- his switch to scotch is waaaay more expensive!
Bubba, I have the best peanut butter cookie recipe:
1 c sugar
1 c peanut butter (jif works great)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
Roll in balls, sugar coat and flatten with fork. Bake for 15 min at 335.
These are excellent and you will never know that they do not have flour in them. Thanks, lorster - my kids always get a baking urge out of the blue, and we never have all the ingredients for anything. But we have everything for this recipe all the time!
Thanks everyone.
That cookie recipe sounds so "yummmy" :)
It is so easy to get glutened, especially when you first begin a gluten free diet, because there is gluten in so many hidden places. Some celiacs discover that they have other food intolerances as well after they get the gluten under control. Soy, unfortunately, is a common cluprit, as is dairy (especially common is lactose intolerance). Hang in there and try to be consistant. I know it can be very hard, especially at first. You may have to make everything from scratch yourself so that you know exactly what is in the foods you eat. In time it gets easier and you will feel more confident about eating out in resturants, etc. Your episode of diarrhea can be caused by accidentally getting glutened, or it could be something else you've eaten, even a virus. If you continue to have problems, start a food diary of all that you consume and show it to your dr.
