I do not want to know about the side effects | Arthritis Information

 

I have always been very big on reading the paper work that comes with my medicine. The Mtx i still have not read it. I learn alot on the forum about Mtx. But thats not why i did read the paper work. Yikes all of my other meds say do not take with and all my meds are not supposed to be taken with each other it seems. Anyway i am confinced if i do not know the side effects i will not have any. Because i read the label on the fentanel patch and i had to take it off three hours later. It scared me. My lips went numb and i just did not like it. Especially scince i had hair thinning from the Arava already. So now i do not know about the side effects and my hair should start getting thicker. I know not to drink while on it from the forum. I have the flu again or still. My son is  very sick with the flu. His girl commented on what a great moaning and whinning job he was doing with his case of the flu. Of course he ran to the store for me a few days ago. But he had us running in circles getting him cold rags and tylonol till he got so tired he finally slept all day. But now i am wondering if Mtx can cause the runs? Or if this is just a relapse of the flu? As my throat is feeling a bit swollen again.It can cause nausea and stomach upset and if you have a sensitive stomach, you can get Diarrhea.  It's not a symptom everyone gets, but it is possible.  It can also be a combo of both flu and Mtx.  With the flu, your stomach is very upset and hurting, Mtx can cause even more problems during this time that may end in many bathroom trips.

If you took your MXT and you had the flu, you don't know if it's one or the other.  All you can do is wait till your next dose of MXT and see how you do. Like Bubba I was instructed not to take MXT if I had a cold, flu, sinusitis, or an upper respiratory infection.  In fact if you are ill in any way or have any type of infection. I've never had any side effects from MXT except for fatigue the following day.  LindyThe way I battle the MTX side effects is with lots and lots of water.. IF I don't drink my water the day before and after, I feel my worst.  (THat and the folic acid!)  I found that without the extra water I have a headache like a hang over (dehydrated?) and stomach upset.  And yes, I've had diarrhea too... Most of my symptoms are only the day after MTX dose. My RD never told me to stop Mtx, although they always want to know about any infections, I was even Dxed with pneumonia (which I don't think I had) at urgent care I asked about taking Mtx and they said it was ok. it's crazy how RD are different in this! as far as I am concerned I really dont care about side effects. I dont read the package insert unless I have what I consider a bad reaction. If the  drug companies had their way  side effects listed would include  car accidents and typhoons. Well you could be like my mother - she reads the package inserts and then picks from the potential side effects list like it is an ala carte menu!!!  She's determined to have at least a few of the side effects from any medication she takes!
