flexeril question | Arthritis Information

I notice many people here take flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) or another muscle relaxer regularly.  Why is that?  Is it to treat a condition besides RA?  I know many people here have more than one medical battle.

Just curious. I've had flexeril a few times when I've had a really bad muscle strain.  It seemed to help with that, but did nothing for areas of my body that simply have RA pain and not muscle pain.

I bet most of them have Fibro. Or, it's for a "neck issue"

I've started to notice a lot of us have "neck issues" that no one seems to have a solid answer for.

I know mine doesn't!
I don't really remember why I'm taking flexeril.  I've taken it for many years now.  I think it was because I was having a difficult time sleeping since I was so sore.  So while finding the right combo, she had me use flexeril as well.  I was just prescribed Robaxin because of muscle and tendon pain.  PsA affects the tendons and causes inflammation.  A muscle relaxant eases the tension on the tendons.  It's a vicious little cycle with PsA.  In fact I'll take the first one this evening.  Will let you know how it works.  LindyI take flexeril for muscle cramps. I get them often. I drink lots of water, take a multi vitamin and eat bananas but still get these awful cramps that I have to jump up and walk off. I also have muscle spasms. I can actually see the muscle on my theigh spazzing out.

This part is TMI:  I went last month for my pap and kept having muscle cramps in my calves and behind my knees. It was awful. I kicked dr trying to get up to walk it off. Then we got situated again on the table and more cramps. I was cussing and trying to rub my leg. Dr. started rubbing my calves to help me. FInally I said , just do it and get it over. By then I had cramps from my theigh to my ankles. I was given flexeril back when I first starting seeing an RD again, in 1999. Yeah... it done nothing for me then either. And at the time I was also given Ultram, yeah... it done nothing for me either.

Seems like most meds I take for pain helps me. Seems like only shots in the BUTT help me. Flexeril is a fibro med. As it helps with deep sleep issues. Focus for treating fibro is good deep sleep. So more for that than actually a muscle remeady fo treatment of fibro. So if you are given flexeril for fibro you are supposed to take it every night to sleep well and prevent fibro. It is not to just take when you are hurting as it does not work that way. Or so i have been told in the past by RD. I had it for fibro and skelaxin, but nothing has helped yet. I was originally prescribed a different muscle relaxer for back problems that worked great and then kind of lost it's effect on me. My doctor then gave me flexeril to try and it seems more helpful.

I have several different back problems some of which is RA, Buldging Disk, DDD and surely muscular as well. Muscle relaxers along with Tramadol do seem to relax it enough for me to get comfortable in the evenings.
