mtx side effects......question? | Arthritis Information

Hi guys...My RA has started to feel better and I haven't been quite so tired anymore, almost starting to feel like my normal self. However, how I'm noticing that the Methotrexate has crap effects on my body that I didn't notice before because I grouped it all together under the RA. I took it two nights ago (20 mg by injection) and I have been feeling very tired both days after, and today I woke up and I am feeling nauseous. From all of your experiences, does this sound about average for mtx users? And also, how long have you found that the bad side effects last after taking it? And.....do any of you experience side effects that I haven't listed here?

Thanks so much for the help and advice,

Britenny

I take the pill form  20mgs a week, and while I was being upped gradually, I did feel more tired and nauseous...now the nauseua has gone away and I'm just tired around 2 days later. Hope that helps you some. That's how I feel from the mtx. I take zofran an antinausea med just before the shot each week and folic acid every day. I think they have both made a hugh difference. I had worse side effects from the pills.

Good Morning Britenny,

When I was first on MTX, it made me a little nauseated but as time went on, it went away.  I did stay tired for the first day or 2 after taking it, right up till I got off the MTX.  Using the injectable MTX is suppose to help cut down the nauseated feelings. You also may need to take Folic Acid with the MTX.  About 1 to 2 days before needing to take my MTX, I would start feeling more and more pain. You have to remember that MTX is chemotherapy drug, but you are taking it in lower doses, so any side effects that MTX might have in it's normal use range you may feel but at a lower effect rate.  Incase you want more information, I put this link in ...

tiana,

WOW, I didn't know they gave you Zofran for nausea, when taking MTX for RA.  I had to take Zofram when I had chemo therapy for my Breast Cancer...Did they try Leucovorin first before they put you on Zofran.   Glad to hear it's working for you..

Yea, I was surprised too when the  RD I had first gone to that gave me MTX and Zofran...this was years ago, but it came out to . a pill. I never needed it.
