So what's next | Arthritis Information

I just came back from an appt with my RD. The good news is the plaquenil's working, the cortisone shot did the trick for my knee, and my platelet count is up to 57K so it's now been 4 months since I've needed to go to the hospital for a treatment. Whoo Hoo!

The bad news is I found out why I have this all over body ache, especially when there's a change in barometric pressure. Turns out I have Fibro.
And the reason why it hurts when I'm holding a book or carrying a bag of groceries is I have OA in my thumb and wrist. Just what I need a new learning curve!

I'll have to gently break the news to my family. They've been so excited about the RA improvement and my stable platelet counts. I know my hubbie's going to feel like he's been hit with a steamroller. I can picture him thinking what's next. The positive thing is that I finally know and the'll finally know what's going on with my body so that's what I'm going to focus on. My RD's referring me to an OT for thumb splints and she's given me a months worth of Lyrica samples to see if it'll help with the Fibro. I think I read some posts about fibro and lyrica, but I can't remember what anyone said. Guess that's the brain fog playing tricks with my mind.
Anyways... if someone's had success with lyrica, please send me a reply. Thank you!
I haven't been on lyrica before but I have had fibro for a long time. Its hard, but it is manageable. Sometimes you don't know what to do, and different things hurt that never have, but it will be ok. At least they are beginning to create treatments, ten years ago it was not even considered a real disease, thats when I began my stuff, most RD didn't ackownledge it. Goodluck! I hope the lyrica helps. Thanks for responding ShaDucky. Do you take anything to help with the fibro? My RD mentioned amytriptyline as another option. She says some people get relief with this med. My GP prescribed amytriptyline years ago to help me with my sleep problems. It does help with the sleep disturbances/insomnia, but I have to take it at the right time. If I leave it too late then the adrenaline kicks in and I'm doing an all nighter. Hi Punkie, You're right, at least now you know what the problems are.  Like you, it's a never ending set of health issues for me.  One right after the other, but we always manage to keep going.  I take Lyrica for nerve pain and fibro and yes, it's worked.  Hope you get the same results.  LindyRight now I am on nothing for anything! oy! try to get a doc to see me. In the past I have taken muscle relaxors (sp? oy) and I know what not to eat. Sugar, caffine, anything that has been processed really makes my fibro hurt bad, sometimes it doesn't matter though. I am no sleeping well and take some otc stuff trying to sleep. But other than that! I have done research on juicing veggies and found a lot of relief from that. There are some veggies that have natural help for your muscles. But sometimes nothing helps. Anyways its depends on the day! Good luck to you! That's great news, Lindy! I'm hoping for good results too.

Alicia, I was just reading an article about fighting inflammation with foods. It said to eat red, blue, and purple fruit, and to eat lots of the green veggies, and salmon. It recommends kale as the best green veggie. I can cut out the caffeine & I'll try kale but giving up sugar's going to be tough...I like my sweets. Wait a minute chocolate has caffeine. I can't give that up either. Do they make decaff chocolate?
