Boney, Jesse and I have discussed this before there is something called" Auto immune ear Disease" AIED for short you may want to check this out...... Take care nutHi Boney.  I've had raging tinnitus in my deaf ear for several years but just recently started it, at a much lower level, in my hearing ear.  The general concensus is, it may be auto immune inner ear disease, even though I've been on RA drugs.  My MTX has been bumped to the max and is now injected for more effect and just lately I've found that the ringing in my good ear has stopped on occasion.  It's still there a lot, but there are longer periods of time when all is quiet in that ear.  Since you have RA I think you always have to keep it in the back of your mind that your ears may be affected.  Of course, I don't that for sure, and even your doctors don't, I'll bet.  It's just another one of those crazy, frustrating mysteries of this disease.  If the injection caused the tinnitus to get worse, maybe it will calm down evenutally and has nothing to do with RA.  How often do you get that injection?  Do you know what caused the tinnitus in the first place?  Do you know why it was starting to disappear?  Those are clues that might help you and your doctors find an answer.  hi nut i had a look on the web some good info..

hi jess i no longer have depo injection.. high dose gave me coulors on the outside
feild of vision like a kalidascope.. headaches and pressure... swollen lips
so dose was reduced and tinnitus went up..  but still got pressure in head and swollen lips
and a lump on the side of my leg.. so dose was reduced again.. no side effects but
dose to low to impact ra.. like you i was on mtx .. it was not so bad on mtx...
i first got tinnitus while at work on the building sites .. before the law for
ear defenders was brougt in..but never at these volumes..     Boney
I have hearing loss.. high pitched hearing loss... I do not hear whistles ... beeps....tea kettles, etc.... and I have a constant sound in my ears .... kind of like crickets... tinnitus.

I have worn aides... but they can give me an ache in front of my year.
OK, so it sounds like the initial cause of the tinnitus is damage and the increase may be from the increased pressure in your head brought on by the injection.  Maybe eventually it will all calm down, even out and stop the higher volume.  You have my sympathy.  I know what you're dealing with, big time.  The best thing I can offer is, if my experience is of any use, that you will eventually get used to the new, increased volume and it won't be too much of an issue.  Good luck.Boney, Iam with Jesse this has baffled me so much with the ringing in the ears,or some time's I like to call it ocean sound's.  It lead me to the point that I was so desperate for information that I stumbled across the AIED.  I do believe it was less noticeable when I was on MTX. now that I am not it has come back with a vengeance.Boney, I should add that, when I realized this new ringing was going to be permanent, I went to a tinnitus support forum for some information.  I was worried that if the new, quiet ringing in my good ear became as loud as that in my deaf ear, I wouldn't be able to hear above the noise.  I was told that tinnitus is not just an ear issue, it's a brain issue, that is, we hear with our ears and our brain.  Others who have suffered increased tinnitus have been able to hear above the noise and continue to function, because of the role of the brain in hearing.  It's true that I adjusted to the loud left ear noise, and now the new right ear noise and I'll bet you will too, regardless of what form it takes and how it ends up.  Thanks for the help jesse88  i  am noticing  that when my brain is very active it
is not so loud but when i am just sitting there or in bed it is high level ..
it must be difficult and strange for you having the tinnitus  in a deaf ear and
tinnitus in a good ear.. everyone thinks i am going deaf. but they do not realise
how loud tinnitus can be..  thanks jess   hi all had high blood pressure 4mths now.. test today something over 165
was startd on ramipril  doc said it may be why tinnitus went up and not
due to depo iniection..
Boney
I have some tinnitus; I am 30.  My mom doesn't have RA or any other autoimmune issues (that we are aware of) but she also suffers from tinnitus.  Her doctor told her that it is getting worse as she ages because she is slowly losing some hearing.  Apparently losing just even a bit will make the tinnitus louder (well at least you will perceive it to be louder).
