Prednisone Question | Arthritis Information
How long does it take for Prednisone to start to work IF it will actually work for the pain? I just started it today and it's a six day pack. You should be feeling the benefits within 24 HRS.
At least that was the way it worked for me.

Depends on the dose and how bad you are flaring. For me it took two days at 35 mg. Last month. Several months back they started me at 60mg. I hope it starts working very quickly for you. What dose did they give you? Also if it keeps you awake the forum is a good place for you when can not sleep. Best of luck to you. It works within 24hrs if the inflammation is what is causing your pain. It doesn't work as an actual pain killer, so any pain caused by other types of arthritis etc. will not be effected by the prednisone.I felt amazingly better with in 24 hours.So if it is the inflamation that is causing the pain and the Prednisone is helping w/ that does that mean it's most likely Arthritis? Sorry for so many questions....It *always* took two to three days for me to reap the benefits from prednisone.
Yes, if you feel better on prednisone, your condition is inflammatory.

I think we are mostly talking about the blister pack or Medrol pack as it's called. That starts with a high dose the first day and tapers down for 5 days after that. So the first day's dose I believe is something like 48 mg.
For me it always took closer to 2 days for me to feel better, but by then the dosage was down and I was starting to lose the effect. Usually it was enough to get me past a really bad point.
I'm on 10mg/day and on my 3rd day and starting to see some improvement. The injection I had a month ago worked after 2 days and lasted for about 2 weeks. I'm thinking this dosage he has started me on may be a little low?oooops i do not think these are available here in the uk.. medrol packs...
if they are i have never had them ... medrol injections are given instead
