Doing a paper on Lupus - want to chime in? | Arthritis Information

I have to do a relatively short research paper for my Bio10 Class (3 pages), I'm doing mine on Lupus - history, diagnosis, complications, treatments, etc. If anyone would like to chime in about their experience with any of those factors (I know many have trouble getting a diagnosis), please do!

Please indicate in your post whether you would mind being directly quoted in the paper. It will simply say "One Lupus sufferer has said that their diagnosis was 'blahblahblah'..."--no names will be given.

I thought this would be interesting to research because I interact with all kinds of people with different disease on this board and I feel bad not knowing what people are talking about...hopefully now I will be able to emphasize better!

Thanks guys! Also, these are the sources I currently have:

If you have any suggestions for more let me know :)
hi gypsy i do not have sle but my brotherinlaw does.. just diagnosed last year...

he felt ill for a few weeks and his doc was running bloodtests..
he then went on holiday abroad..  1 week after his return his skin erupted
into big blisters and he was taken into hospital.. at first they said he had tropical
sunburn..?  then the skin on his face and arms and back was peeling away
leaving open wounds and a horrible smell.. blood tests were run including
a lumbar puncture.. it took 3 weeks in the hospital to get a confirmed diagnosise
of sle.. then a brain scan was done and many xrays and scans..
so far it has not affected his organs or brain but he does have arthritis
mainly affecting his hip.. his treatment upon entering hospital was high dose steroids
and antibiotics..  he is now on azathiaprine 60mg ..prednisone.3mg. etidronic acid and omeprazole and skin creams..
he was on mtx as well but this been stopped.. steroid dose was 15mg and weaning off.
now 3mg...  initial tests were run for cancers and hiv.. his platelet count is low allso
whit count low... he never had a red face or any tell tale signs but he does have a red face
now.. he is having great difficulty coming to terms whith this..
he thinks it was brought on by a very stressfull event in his life..he is 46 yr old

hope this of some help...Boney

tenderjoints2008-04-07 10:59:03do you have any more scientific sources if your school has subscriptions with pubmed and stuff like that you will find good stuff. i just did a paper on JRA and how biologics work... have fun! i loved writing mine :)Careful with Wikipedia. We do not allow our students to use it as a source.

Good luck on your paper.   I don't have Lupus or I would be happy to help out.
