Bone Loss Protocol and Medications | Arthritis Information

Share

I have read all the information concerning these medications.  I had a bone density test two years ago which was normal.  I had another one done two months ago, and am now on Actonel, the prescription Vitamin D because my

blood test showed a deficiency.  I am taking two Tums a day to receive my calcium.  I went from completely normal to osteoporosis.  I've been on steroids for 14 months.  My doctor told me that if I did not take the Actonel and follow the rest of the protocol I could very well fracture or break a hip in the near future.  He told me that Actonel was for life.

I have no side effects, except in the beginning I had stomach issues.  I've discussed my fears about the medication and all the data.  Three of my doctors tell me the information is not new and that they have been telling all their patients about the possible side effects.  One doctor asked me if I knew the medication that caused the most deaths in a year.  His reply was aspirin.
Menopause and the steroids have caused the bone loss.  What other options are open to us besides the current medications Actonel and Fosamax and Boniva.  The thought of a fractured hip or a back fracture would really not be an option either.

It may have much the same info as the magazine this month....

Thank you.  I see this magazine in the rheumy's office and I do have a subscription to it, but I guess my membership ran out because I have not seen this current information.

It is the March-April issue.....I am still debating with my doctor about the Actonel he prescribed.  He gave me some samples of Fosteum which is also used for osteopenia and osteoporosis and is a medical food product that is by prescription only.  Actually, he gave it to me to use for my hot flashes.  I so hope it works.

I have found a fantastic book....here is the website of the author...

The book is The Bone-Building Solution. Scroll down to take a look at it. I have never read so much stuff. Tons I did not know - lots of research. There is a medical device sold in Canada that Nasa will be using - Dynamic Motion Therapy...

IT is a fortune to buy but there is stuff out there. If anyone buys this - report back! Take a look at this book - it talks about kinds of calcium and other things you should take with it. More info than I knew about. ALso about meds and new info on how to read your test results. What things you can do I never dreamed regarding bone health. See if your library has this book or pick it up at your bookstore. The book also has a lot of links and other sources of info. I will be busy for awhile absorbing all this.
Next trip to the bookstore I will pick up a copy.  The Juvent is expensive at that price.  I then need to order some supplements.  I hate the thought of adding another pill to swallow.

I take the prescription medications but I am not disciplined enough to keep up with the supplements.  I simply forget, and usually remember when my brain is rewinding at bedtime.   Exercise, except for walking, is another thing I am not disciplined about.  I am devoted for about two weeks, and then I start to slack off.

I will make the attempt again.   I have some other good books about maintaining body acid levels.  It is sad, but the fatigue from PMR and the brain fog from the Medrol makes reading and staying on task hard.  Not an excuse but just how I feel.

Nice research Smartie.  I read things, but have no idea on how to post them to the forum.
