Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone has any tips for dealing with wrist pain. I am having a hard time writing and am a college student. This is just one more problem I am having to deal with besides the pain in my hands, knees, and right shoulder.If anyone has any tips on helping the pain I would really appresciate any ideas!

Thanks,
Amanda
Still waiting on a diagnosis:(
I used braces while in college and made sure my arms were always warm. Sometimes I had to use ace bandages because braces can be hard to write with. I actually created my own shorthand which made it less painful because I wasn't writing as much. What year are you in and what are you studying? Im just finishing up my freshman year and a Pre-med major! Thanks for the ideas!

Oh! I also talked to the disability dept and they set it up so that I would have more time to test and if I missed days at school they would assist me so that I didn't lose the credit. They may ask you for some credibility but you can get your primary doc to write you a reference letter explaining that you are waiting a dx but have severe symptoms that infere with school. The lady who helped me was great. I was sad I didn't figure this out until I had almost finished my degree, but the last couple semesters were easier to deal with. Thats a great idea I will definitly look into that. Thanks so much

This is actually my worst spot right now.  I wear a wrist brace when it acts up, it still allows me to write and type, but holds it steady.

Be sure to try on all braces at the store to find the one that's right for you.
hi amanda sorry your having this prob ..  i thought maybe you could look at  pens that
are designed to help take pressure off by being designed different than the usual ones.

I have these things called Handez. They look like a glove with the fingers cut off at the knuckles and the hand part is made out of flesh colored spandex. The the wrist is kind of like ace bandage with velcro so you can make it as tight or loose as you need. They were in the drugstore. Very comforting!As long as you can do it comfortably, a little bit of exercise will be beneficial. Best cheap way (good on the school no money budget) is a fresh tennis ball. Squeeze and hold it for ten seconds.  I have brilliant wrist supports with the metal strip in them.   I'm not sure of the brand offhand, but I'm sure to have the packaging they came in.  I would look it out if you're interested.  I got them free through orthotics at the hosp.  one pair for farmwork and a going to town pair

Pens with a big rubber grip are a big help to me.

I like pens w/ a cushion where you hold... and that are gel... they glide easier...

Sorry you have so much writing to do... I know addressing invitations for my daughter-in-law's baby shower was a killer..

Can you audio tape your lectures?  then write at your leisure?  or make your notes more consise?

truly sorry...but I admire your efforts!!
Wrist braces (with metal stays) and Handeze gloves help me out immensely when my hands and wrists are bothering me.  I get the 3/4-length Handeze gloves (available from Dome Products, the manufacturer).  They cover much of the fingers, which helps with sore finger joints. Oohh.. pre-med! You don't need this kind of stress on top of that! I've found that compression bandages like they use for burns victims hit the spot and can slow down the 'carpal tunnel' effect with pain and numbness. A brace with the metal bit also helped. I'd also, like it was suggested, go to disability and ask for special conditions in exams and for homework assignments (taking notes was a long and painful process for me), I used to be able to have extra time to move around (I can't sit for long, 'gel phenomenon') and the use of a laptop for my exams. Hope that helps! _popupControl();
