hi all supose this has been done.. but here goes...

we got a dog from the animal recue.. he was great..a few weeks later
we all started getting boils ..  we got antibiotics .. but i got
more boils.. the wife had a huge one on her back..
then i got a large boil on my thumb.. the gp said did we have any new pets
yes i said the dog.. he said it may have poison in the blood and its fleas
are biting us and infecting our blood.. he said my thumb looked pretty bad
i better go to hospital get it checked out..this is were the fun began..
all my other boils i cleared whith antibiotics and soaking the poison out
in the bath.. when they bust they bust eeewwww...
anyhow see a doc and a nurse.. they must have been bored because
they decided they can cut it out...well they missed the bit in the medical books
that says injections to freez poisoned thumbs    Do Not work...
5 injections and i can feell my tendon being pulled..then 1 says this is deeper
than i thought.. then they gas and aired me...to sedate me...
next thing im waking up big bandage on my thumb and those 2 idiots
standing well back from me....anyways a few weeks later and up pops ra
i dont think it was the actual boil caused ra . rather the opperation
they performed to remove it..causing my immune system to go on overload
imentioned this to my doc but he said rubbish.. i cant see how he can say
that as he has no other answer.....  Boney
Well, boney..   Sorry you had that trouble.

But, it comes into my head that:  Practicing is what Doctors do...

Tell me some of those morons in the ER/docs office ran a culture?

What happened to the dog?  Did you see a vet and did he run any tests?  Vets tend to be much more willing to do that compared to MD's.

The boils didn't cause the RA - IMO it was a bacteria transfered by the dog/fleas.

Did any doc prescribe probiotics after the various antibiotics?  What about for the other members of the family?  If not - please have them start now so they can avoid what is happening to you.

Also, please check out www.roadback.org to learn about treating RA with antibiotics.

Also, consider finding another rheumy.  Why somebody with a history of an infection wasn't tested for/treated like they had reactive arthritis is beyond me.

And...while I'm on this rant...please find a LLMD (Lyme literate MD) to see about being tested for Lyme - which mimics RA.  Fleas can transmit Lyme.  Filthy buggers.  Make sure it's the Igenex test - not the Western Blot or Elisa which the CDC admits is 'flawed'.

Run, do not walk, do not pass Go!  Hurry.  There is a serious chance you can beat this with the right treatment.

Hugs,

Pip
I personally think that select people have ra and it sleeps until the day something wakes it up.  Usually something tragic on the body from bad infections, to stressful situations, problems with body like cancer or uterin polyps etc.  Things that cause the body to panic in a full amount.

it is very possible that your immune system tried to fight this infection and was failing or thought it was so it went into panic mode and RA woke up.
I'm sure my RA is linked to a traumatic ordeal I went through as a seven year old.  I kept this ordeal secret from most people for 43 years.    Over the years when Dr's and Specialists asked me if I'd had a lot of stress in my life I'd be quick to answer no.   Everything is out in the open now and I no longer deny that I've had a very stressful life.
But what a bugga my body won't heal as well as my spirit has.

Bonsey go and get checked for lyme disease, like pip said it could be that since the dog already has fleas.  Lyme disease can mimmick ra let us know what happens and if you still have the dog get it to the vet and have it treated for fleas and ticks.  Sorry about all the trouble you are having.  meme My mom thinks that because I was heavy on antibiotics my entire childhood led to this. I don't agree, but I would agree that my immune system is much weaker than most because of constant use that was not needed.
I am glad to hear they caught that soon and that your son is ok Boney!Preceding my diagnosis, I had the most horrendous stomach aches imaginable.  I mean, doubled over in pain every day for several hours for about 2 1/2 months.  The doctor gave me Prevacid and put me on a special diet but it only got worse.  Then one day, voila, no stomach ache and it never came back.  BUT, within days I started having joint pain.  I have been diagnosed with RA but have read enough about infectious arthritis to be convinced "something" along the lines of a bacteria or virus triggers it.  Or like someone said, it may have been there all along and I could have gotten a bug that just pushed an already overloaded immune system over the edge.

Anyway, yipes - sounds like yours too was definitely triggered.  I can't believe a doctor who knows anything about the immune system wouldn't consider that.  *shaking head*
shaducky-

I too as a child was on a lot of antibiotics. My mother had me to the doctor for every little thing and back then (I'm 47) they ALWAYS prescribed antibiotics or gave you a big old dull needle of Penicillin in the butt. Virus or bacterial infection.

However- once out on my own I became very healthy.  Everyone around me would come down with things- not me! I bragged about it until RA took me out at the knees. Now I say my immune system is so great it even wants to attack itself apparently.....
maybe thats it! But no I have never been healthy, not even when I got on my own. Oh well its something I've come to deal with and have done ok doing so. My first thought was lymes, too.

For the people who took antibiotics I think "leaky gut syndrome". All those probiotics got killed and the North American diet is almost devoid of live fermented foods.
