It is hard to read - but scroll down and there is a discussion section that is more readable. In essence - it is research on the mangosteen fruit. I have been drinking it for awhile now among other things. I have been making leaps and bounds with my recovery from PMR. I have been off pred since jan 1st (only on it for a couple months) and have not needed an NSAID since last week. I do struggle but it is way tolerable. My last blood test showed a normal sed rate but my CRP is still high. I pulled a muscle in my low back (have always had trouble with my low back) just leaning over and putting on make up. It has caused more pain than the PMR. I am very hopeful that I am almost through with this monster.

I have tried to deal with this thing in a more natural way...
Hi smartie,

I have never heard of the mangosteen fruit, but I will certainly look into it.  Are you familiar with the acai berry?  It is touted as a superfood that helps with inflamation (among main other ailments).  Dr Oz on Oprah has talked about this fruit a lot, but I still have not tried it.

I am down to 1mg. pred. (I've had pmr 4 years).  I tried not taking any, and I had a lot of difficulty.  I didn't think 1 mg. could make such a difference.  That's great that you are off it, and I am sorry about your pulled muscle.  I have had that too, and I hope you heal soon.

Thanks for all this ino!

I lived in Brazil for six months and ate acai every day. I love it - it is so delicious. In Rio they make it like an icee - sometimes with granola or bananas on top - then you eat it with a spoon. The best here in the usa is Sambazon. Don't look for a fruit - it is a juice or a powder or capsules. THey also make a delicious acai sorbet. The mangosteen fruit is hard to find but mangosteen juice is found easy...in  most health food shops and online. I drink the Genesis.

smartie, thanks so much for this info! These articles sound convincing-- I think I will try the acai juice as well as the mangosteen.  I have nothing to lose--they both are healthy. Perhaps they will satisfy my sweet tooth.  I have craved sweets a lot since my diagnosis.  I am hoping that when I can finally stop the pred. that this will remedy itself.
