I am so excited about starting Enbrel.  I would love to hear what the first time was like for you Enbrel users.  Did you feel better right away?  How long?  Also, are there any side effects after injection besides site reaction?  I know about the concerns over infection.  I hope to start it this week and I have never looked forward to anything more in my life.  I would love to have a better idea what to expect.  Thanks guys.

Hope this is great for you too!!!!!!!!!

And the shot is nothing.. its into the skin so no vein or muscle.... its easy and im TERRIFIED of needles... did my first shot myself...

Thanks Uni.  I am soooooooooo excited.  I am not feeling scared.  I can't wait and I didn't think I would ever be able to do it.  Now I think I can   No side effects?Roxy~ I'm so happy you're getting your enbrel!

I'm Rebecca and I'm new here. I'm on Enbrel also. Within 48 hours of my first injection, my pain and swelling had decreased so much I can't even tell you! I'm 1,000 times better than before!

I have had some headaches since I've started Enbrel, but they're pretty tolerable and they do go away after a while. But other than that, I'm so much better! And the injection is easy and painless!

Please keep us posted on how you're doing. I've heard nothing but good stuff about Enbrel and I hope it works wonders on you!

You guys are making me so happy I am crying happy tears

hmmmmmmmmm, itching, redness, swelling, bumps, lumps and bruising - sounds like a normal day in my life

Roxy, you have to tell me how it goes.  The doc has talked about starting me on Enbrel and if it can give me energy and keep me awake, I'm all for it plus I sure wouldn't mind if my knees would shut up.  The hips are acting up again also.  I hate it when I can't tell where the pain ends and where the pain begins.

Cristene,  I can't wait to tell you about the results.  I have truly forgotten what it feels like to "feel good".  I just feel deep down inside that this is going to do it for me.  My body has a difficult time adjusting to mtx and prednisone.  I think Enbrel is going to be my friend

I had the site reactions in the beginning but they don't happen anymore. I do have dry eyes and for the elevated blood pressure and headaches I take a beta blocker. Oh and I've gained weight. I'm hungry all the time. I think it's the enbrel but the doc thinks it's all my activity.

p.s. I have been fortunate (or stubborn) and have only taken prednisone when having a serious flare. I won't take steroids unless I've been in so much pain I have to be hospitalized. It always suprises how many docs willingly and easily prescribe them knowing the long term side effects. Thank goodness for the bioligics. I doubt you'll need your pred for long Roxy once the enbrel kicks in.

I sure hope so.  I know you have had a tough time with the meds.  You remind me of how fortunate I am.  I thought the NSADS were awful and I went through so many of them before we found Vioxx (so sad I can't have it anymore).  For me that was a great drug.

I hope you get a new friend!

Speaking of friends, how is our friend Mina?  I hope she is okay!

I used to take prednisone. Once I was put on Enbrel I was tapered off of everything else.

Cristene, I haven't talked to Mina since I have been back.  I will check in with her tomorrow.

I am so happy for all of your feedback.  I pray this is the week I get my injection.  I might just have to buy a handful of plane tickets and go around and hug every one of you I will be so happy

Me roo, roxy, me too.

I just finished reading your messages, you have come a long way in such a short time.  I mean it.  Hoping the medicine will help, of course it will, and you will feel sooooooooo much better.

The darn computer is messing up again on me.  So I take it that it was a No on lyme disease.  But at least you will have the new medicine.  I am so glad for you.

Same here!  Good luck roxy! I hope you have much success with enbrel.

I I took Enbrel for a while. After the 3rd shot I felt just fantastic. I had energy and no pain, I could do things again.

After my 4th shot same thing.

After the 5th shot, nothing happened. I was exhausted, everything hurt, I was tired.

We continued until I had taken it for 4 full months, without ever getting back to the great results I had twice.

My RD then put me on Humira. After the 3rd shot I felt pretty good. but the efffect wore off well before time for the next shot.  He doubled my MTX and now it lasts the full 2 weeks and I'm feeling pretty good.

There is always some kind of a solution.. Good Luck.

I was on Enbrel for about 18 months.

The 1st shot I zapped the needle in just like the pa demonstrated but I yanked it right back out before injecting the stuff! Got to stick myself again.

Enbrel produced a 6 hour headache in about 2 hours but it also eased my ioints by the next day. It worked but it didn't last til the next shot. Always got the headache too but it became less of a headache over time.

I switched to Remicade because of the not lasting. They give you benedryl - the antihistimine with your 1st dose of remicade. No headache! 2nd dose no benedryl got the headache. So now I always take benedryl with remicade infusion.

This makes me wonder if I had taken a benedryl at night like I do now to help me sleep - if I could have skipped the Enbrel headache too.

Best of luck to you. Enbrel sure is more convenient than going in for IV's when you are working.

Thanks Marian.  I will ask rd about benedryl since I have been prone to reactions to the drugs.  I am getting so impatient When are you going to start it? I am on the phone right now Murphie.  Trying to get an answer to that question
