Fuzzy Slow Thinking | Arthritis Information

Hi-been a long time since I last posted. i am spending several weeks with one of my sisters and she is really worried because I am slow to remember things, male typos and have to re-correct and not as sharp as I used to be. I'n not feeling well in general-a cold- but taking all my meds and things and otherwise 'life as normal'. and, ha, ha, can't remember, does ra make you forgetful? THANKSCould be. I like to blame it on that at times.when you body hurts your mind cant think.I call it my fibro brain fog. It's like a daily game of Charades with my husband and daughters trying to supply the word(s) that have slipped my mind.  I don't worry about it when it's  my family and friends. But if it's anyone else, it's a real battle to try to arrange my thoughts so that I make sense to others. For instance, when I have to call the school to let the secretary know that my daughter is ill, I have to write down what I'm going to say, otherwise I sound like a moron. It also takes me ages to post replies because of the constant proof-reading. When it first started, I really thought  I was getting Alzheimers. THank goodness one of my co-workers also had fibro and helped me understand that the fogginess is part of the disease.I see that you're on MTX, but I don't see any folic acid.  If you're not on it, ask the doctor for a prescription ASAP.  The MTX, even with folic acid, had me so dopey, but when I was switched to the stronger version, leucovorin, the fog got somewhat better.  Depending on what dose of MTX you're on, you may need the leucovorin now and skip the folic acid altogether.  Of course, since we're all different, it may be your illness isn't completely under control and brain fog is one of your symptoms. Or it could be one of the other meds you're taking.  For what it's worth, there's a LOT of brain fog on these boards, so you've got plenty of company.  I don't think it's a question of forgetting things, it's just that it takes longer. Everyone gets that way sooner or later. Chronically ill people get it sooner. If you are fighting off depression, you will definitely experience some slowing down.

Needed to edit this cause I slowed down mab522008-04-10 13:34:34I'm not sure if it's the RA or the meds, but I do the same thing. I also enjoy replacing words with ones that don't make sense. It keeps DH on his feet.

I hope it gets better for you and make sure you mention it to your doc! *hugs*
I have had the same problem since I have been on MTX.  I can't remember words and lose things all the time and I just do stupid things.  Drives me nuts. While I was on prednisone I didn't realize just how off my memory and thinking were. My sisters and cousins, bless their hearts, kept a number of my posts. Some were quite hilarious!
I'm having a really bad day with this.
Today my boss was asking me questions about things- just simple things and I forgot the answer to every one. Then he said what month is this? I said March.....

This is too much!
Is it the prednisone or the MTX?
I had this problem while being on Methatrexate.  I felt like I was walking around in this brain fog...my thinking was so fuzzy.  I was also very fatiqued all the time.  Since I have been off Methatrexate I feel wonderful! IMO That is some nasty stuff!

Time_of_my_Life2008-04-12 13:29:52I don't know what else my doctor would put me on snce the MTX seems to be working so well....

MTX does work well if you are taking the right dose. You could actually be taking too much and not need it. It can be detrimental to you if you take too much and the side effects could be like giving it to someone who does not need to be on it. I was taking too much of it and I was losing my marbles not to mention how it made feel anxious and angry all the time when I was taking it. Check with your doctor soon to see what he/she says. Good luck!
