MTX headache solution? | Arthritis Information

today, RD said that I should take a dose of dextromethorphan before I take MTX 20 mg and then the next day as well.

should help w/ the bad feelings and the "hangover" headache.

Anyone here that or try that??

I take 15 mgs MTX and I don't have anything more adverse then fatigue for a few days. I just go to bed early.

I never heard of the medicine you speak of. I am also on prednisone so I am only allowed to take Tylenol for a head ache or mild pain.

Then I am reluctant to do that because of the liver implications since MTX is also being used.

Plus tylenol doesn't really work for me. I always used Advil

We believe that we are beginning to understand the biological cause of the neurotoxicity that happens after treatment with methotrexate. Dextromethorphan, an ingredient in common cough medicines, may be able to prevent and/or treat this neurotoxicity. We have given dextromethorphan to a small group of patients who developed severe neurologic side effects after methotrexate. All had a complete recovery within one day.

I sometimes get MTX "hangovers" but I find if I drink a lot of water for the 48 hours after I take it I don't get the hangover. If I DO get an MTX hangover in spite of a lot of water intake, I have some marijuana and that usually fixes me up.hi wannabe. just wonderd are you saying. because you are on pred
you have been told not to take any pain meds..
i have taken co.dydramol for 13yrs and sometimes trammadol and am now a
little worried. as i was never told this

I took narcotics when I was in bad pain but I was told the only OTC pain reliever I can take is Tylenol.

They said anything else with the prednisone is too harsh on the stoamch and could cause bleeding. No aspirin, no ibuprophen

Neurotoxicity? Yikes! I don't like the sound of that. I'm going to try it this weekend.. IF it works.. or even if not, I will let you know.
