Hey guys! I have a question.

I want to get something *like* nurse shoes. Something nice that's meant for standing for long periods of time.

I've looked online a lot and they're kinda expensive.........which is okay.........but I want to get them for a DEAL if I can.

Are there stores that I can go INTO and try them on, and not get ripped off? I thought about a uniform store, and I'm gonna pop into ours on Monday - But I was thinking of chain stores, Wal-Mart, Target, Ross, etc etc etc

Does anyone know if they sell anything comparable?

When I DO finally get a pair - price aside what is it that I should really be looking for?

I appreciate the responses!!!
Truthfully I think you have to spend the money to get the quality.  I wear Dansko clogs.  I think they typically start around .  They are very comfortable.  Spend some time searching the internet, sometimes you can find a good sale. I actually like Cobbie Cuddlers..  they feel good and are  cheap enough I can get 2 pair and alternate..  I have a pair of their sandals that I love.. the only pairs Ive ever beeen able to wear..

also they have some Mary jane type nurse shoes..

available at KMart
The best brand that I have found for me is Propet and I get them from zappos.com with free shipping. I just bought two pairs of summer slides that are very much more summery and will go with a summer dress more than my Propet black flats I have been wearing with pants all winter.  Watch zappos when it gets to be July or August and they get the new season's shoes in for those.Although I haven't bought the kind of shoes you're looking for, I really like www.shoebuy.com.  They have good prices in general, plus free shipping and free RETURN shipping if you return the shoes (so you can "try on" as many as you want).  I can usually find a nice coupon code on www.retailmenot.com, plus if you order from shoebuy, and then order again within a certain time period (90 days maybe?) you get a discount for that (on top of any promo codes).  And they have a nice advanced search feature, with a category specifically for nurse shoes.  Happy hunting!I have bad RA in my feet, and bought Dankso while in nursing school, and they changed my life I swear.  I didn't believe my feet would ever feel (almost) pain-free at the end of the day.  Very much worth the 100 bucks or so I paid.  Hope that helps in your decision.  I know they are pricey.  weird, i posted a long reply and it didnt' show up..

Ok, YES nurses shoes are Exactly what you need!! :)

don't buy at Walmart, i love it, but not for shoes..

YOu need Quality, comfy shoes, good arch, feels like walking on air..

Macys Outlet?

good luck

and hey katie hugs!! lol
I wear Dansko and Wolkys now.  When I was working surg. unit I wore clogs but I didn't have RA then and just needed really comfortable shoes, not really, really, really comfortable like I do now.  If you don't have many foot issues then a pair of cushioned, supported shoes should be fine for your feet and also help your legs.  All you can do is look around.  Dansko and Wolkys are heaven for me but might be hell for you.  You just have to try the shoes on and walk around the store, cross your fingers and hope they'll be comfortable 6 hours later.  Lindy LinB2008-04-18 12:14:52Why do we have to wear such ugly shoes?? Do ugly shoes make us feel better? No.

i like wellington boots they are soft and rubbery.. Although you may not buy there check out Footsmart.com
Foot support is essential. I live where the weather is hostile so I like shoes with some traction and are preferably waterproof or water resistant. Falling and getting sick from a cold is something I want to avoid.
I love Danskos . When in sales I was on my feet 6-8 hours a day and
Dansko is the only shoes that look nice also feel wonderful.
What you need to do is get fitted somewhere because they are in
European sizes . Then hop online ( Dansco . com ) and get them for almost
half the price and free shipping .
Your feet will love you for them .

I am a Dansko girl too.  They are expensive.  I have three pairs and they are all I wear throughout the school year.  I am always up on my feet and they are the best.  You are paying for the quality.  Before RA I was a payless/target shoe shopper.  That is no longer an option.

Okay the reason I'm asking is because a stupid co-worker has gotten us BANNED from using the stool at the front desk.

I'm exempt, of course, but I want to try to push myself to stand more often. I know I can do it if I have ACTUAL shoes. Right now I wear these crappy plaid slide ons, which I adore, but you can also find in TODDLER sizes at Target, if that tells you anything. LOL

So that you VERY VERY much for all the replies!! I can't wait to hunt, I'm such a freak.

I think we can afford about so that's a good range I'm thinking. :)

HI WHISPERED!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO EMAIL YOU, I'M SORRY!!! LOVE YOU!!!
I love my dansko clogs and they are NOT the least bit ugly. I also wear birks, keens, bornLook for a shoe store that specializes in foot problems.  They will fit you and they have Dansko and other brands of shoes that are good.  If you are having foot problems, don't skimp on shoes because it will just lead to further problems.  I learned this the hard way.  Good luck.
