What is this?!? | Arthritis Information

My right hand just below my thumb is all swollen and it has like a knobby boney appearance.  Almost like the joint is dislocating?!?  It hurts just to touch it yet I know I haven't done anything to cause injury.  I can't get in any sooner w/ the Rheumy but it just seems like things are getting more noticeable lately.  Anyone else have this?Sounds like RA with maybe a rheumatoid nodule thrown in? Ah...the mysteries that are RA.

Hope it goes down soon.

the thumb joint is flaring.  That joint is commonly involved in RA and is the most common  joint for OA.  .use some ice and rest it if possible and hopefully it will feel better soon

Thank you for that observation. I'm not losing my mind...
my middle finger knuckle became square, i thought it was damage, but it was jsut a hard swelling.  When my fingers act up (middle finger and two thumbs) it is the bottom joint of each.  the 2nd from the finger tip on the middle finger and the joint that hooks the thumb to the hand.

Oddly enough, only the thumbs hurt on rainy days.
Monet, I'm having similar pain in both thumbs that's been diagnosed as OA. My RD is sending me to an OT for thumb splints. That might be something for you to try. My RD said the splint will help cushion the thumb when the hands is gripping something.

My mum has just had surgery below her thumb. There was a hard lump at the base of the thumb on the side of the wrist. She had Quervain's tenosynovitis and the lump was the swollen and twisted tendons. It says on the information given to her that it is common in RA.
