Innerglow - you remember your talk about Tonsil Stones? What ever became of that?

I'm posting because I've now noticed a very VERY direct connection.

First of all, taking my allergy meds has helped my RA a lot. Which made very little sense to me, but is slowly sinking in.

Now, I'm noticing when I get tonsil stones, I'm miserable. Or, as they develop, I'm swollen, stiff, cranky, etc etc.

As soon as I can get them out, it's almost instant relief.

I have GOT to do something about my tonsils. How did you approach your doctor about it? Or was he the one who said that's what it was?
I must have missed the tonsil stone thread. I am very interested as I have these disgusting things and now Katie you say there may be a connection??Since I went gluten free, I have not had tonsil stones.  My RA continues to be quite mild, but I am still early into the disease, so if it's mild from being gluten free, or mild from all of the fish oil I take, or still mild just because my RA hasn't yet progressed, I can't say.

But there seems to be some sort of connection between gluten free = no tonsil stones = less inflammation, perhaps?
Tonsil stones are usually partially bacteria from post-nasal drip - which is why there's connection to my allergies.

No allergies = no post nasal drip = no tonsil stones.

I stopped taking my allergy meds every day, as I was getting a dry cracked nose - the tonsil stones came back.

Well what do I do? I don't want to have a dry nose, but I don't want tonsil stones either!!!
Just for the heck of it, do a Google search on gluten and tonsil stones.  There does seem to be a connection.  I did a google search.  Ugh, they sound gross!   OK, I only learned the term tonsil stones on here.  The last time I spoke with doctors about it was a few years ago.  After it came up on here and I learned about tonsil laser resurfacing, I was going to inquire about that.  But I've got so much else going on right now (Orencia, epidurals, PT), plus I haven't been getting the tonsil stones that often, that I've put it aside.  BTW, I take Zyrtec every morning and Singulair every evening for my allergies, plus pseudoephedrine when it gets really bad.  All that doesn't stop them.My mom is gargling with salt water everyday now, says it controls her postnasal drip somehow.  I don't get how that could work, but it does seem like it would treat any bacteria from postnasal drip, so it would prevent tonsil stones (which I've never heard of until now LOL).

Did you know you can treat a swimming pool with table salt instead of chlorine now????  Our friends are getting one, a saltwater pool.  No faded bathing suits or storing gallons of toxic chemicals.
never heard of tonsil stones... Why don't you guys just have those things taken out?

lorster, you mean the tonsils themselves?  Not a simple surgery for an adult, especially one with risk factors like myself.  I actually had more than one doctor who said "don't let them drag you into that surgery, fight it every step of the way".  I was told by another doc that they only remove part of the tonsils and the problem (plus all sorts of bacteria and such) can continue in the part that's left behind.

Alright quit bumping this topic up.  I swear my tonsils start bleeding every time I read the title!!!! Oh! Actually, that's another thing I think I've figured out.

I would randomly taste blood - it's from the tonsil stones. They actually make my tonsil bleed, I watched it the other day.

And it's *just* my left tonsil.

Thanks for the answers..................even though I still don't know what the hell to do. LOL!
OK, sorry to keep bringing this up. I bought some TheraBreath mouthwash which was recommended by a tonsil stone website (can u believe it?). Has anyone used this stuff? The maker has a gazillion products to treat this (the wash is only one of them) and I'm curious if it actually works.

I am getting so paranoid about my breath.ew I think I have those from sinuses. I coughed up a white gross smelling pebbly like ball once. I bet thats what it was. I used to complain of something being lodged in my throat and my mom told me I was crazy. HA take that mom!

I feel like such a hypo...I swear I have everything that comes up on this board! I also thought I had that candidis sp?  but that is also linked to tonsil stones and bad breath.
