Does anyone know if I should be staying out of the sun? The last few days I've sat out in the sun for just a couple hours at a time. Not burning myself, just sitting with the ipod, LOL.

Yesterday, my friend and I sat out back in the sun, at the salon. Just for about an hour. Then, I popped myself in the tanning bed for about 15 min. It's a weak bed, not a high powered one. My arms were a little pink, nothing major. Then, last night on my forearms, I got this funny rash, kinda like the hives. It was a little ichy, not to bad. I took a shower to try to calm it. This morning it's still a little bumpy, but not itchy or hot.
I didn't know if all of this has anything to do with my meds. I looked on all of the papers that came with the meds and nothing said not to go in the sun. But I wanted to ask the experienced ones.
Here's what I take...Birth control, Neurontin, Tramadol, Plaquinel, Vit D-3, and Caltrate.
Whacha think??

some of the ra meds are sun sensitive.. I was told to watch out for sun because of the MTX

I'm not a sun person anyway,  but the other day I was outside with the kids and I discovered a bumpy itchy rash wherever the sun had hit me later that night..

photosensitivity is a side effect of plaquenil.  Take the ususal sun protection precautions and watch your reactions.  Until you figure out how you will react I would suggest not doing extended sun exposure and a tanning bed on the same dayhere in Australia we get a sticker on our Plaquenil and a handout which tells us to avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds. See how you feel in a few days, and maybe limit your sun exposure to half an hour a day - but avoid tanning beds at all costs - UV light not only causes melanoma, but it also greatly affects your immune system, which means that it affects your RA. Something that you do not want.
