Hate the commercial, not the med (Lyrica) | Arthritis Information

I started to see a pattern in another thread, so I'm giving this its own thread:

How many of you hate the Lyrica commercials, the ones with the actresses (there are at least two now I believe) whose muscles are "so tender to the touch"?  Are these the most annoying actresses (or dialogue) ever?  Don't they pronounce Fibromyalgia in a strange way? The whole thing just seems so fake and lifeless to me.  And if you Goggle "Lyrica commercial" you will see plenty of others hating on it as well.

Here's the video of the first commercial for those who haven't seen it:

And how many of you love Lyrica the med?  It's by far my favorite med (sad to have a favorite med, but so be it).  It has helped me so much with both the nerve pain and the fibro pain, it is probably my most effective med, even though it was difficult to get used to in the beginning.

Plus having it FDA approved for Fibro leds some credence to the disease.  I just wish they had better commercials...
oh man I agree.. especially the first one with the woman  soulfully reading from her diary... ewwww.

I think the commercial veiw's as being weak. Instead of just the opposite. People who struggle with this FM are for the most part very capable  human being's it's the FM that get's in the way.   Nut

It's a weak, dramatized, man's view of the disease.  I hate the commercials but I love the drug.  LindyWow. Ok. How annoying. I'm glad that I don't have to see that! Lyrica causes sleepiness? That is my main problem. The Facing Fibromyalgia PSA one was good. It showed MEN as having FMS. I can't believe it!  _popupControl(); ROFL!!!!!

Oh my, i tease my husband with these because he hates them soooooooooo much, i don't like them either but not as much as he hates them.

They just drive me nuts.
OMG I thought I was the only one who cringes every time I see/hear that commercial!!!!!! Another one that made me cringe was the Humira commercial from a while back with the whiny high-pitched singing in the background.  It made me want to go knock down the big Abbott sign at their corporate headquarters here in the Chicago suburbs!

I find most drug commercials kind of creepy. I'm neutral about print advertising, but I'm just fed up with hearing about erectile dysfunction, contraceptives, venereal disease meds, and stuff that really shouldn't be aimed at stimulating consumers (that's coming out kinda weird huh).
Amen!

I barely let the kids watch cartoons, because of both the crappy content and the crappy commercials; and when we watch a semi-educational show on History, Discovery, etc... damn if it's not chock full of Viagra, Valtrex, and Nuvaring commercials.  I really resent being forced into those conversations when all we wanted to do was sit and watch a bit of TV.
IHATE that Lycria commercial also.  I want to slap that woman--so tender to the touch!  No one talks that way--last not for the last 200 years! Yea... she wouldn't be able to read my pain chart comments on the air... "damn... L foot hurts like a b!tch today"... ohhh I Hate Hate this commercial, seriously despise!!!!

it could also be, that i have a friend who has fibro, but.. she can pick up 2 concrete blocks, pull them all around the parking lot, and arrange them in a garden..

does all these things, .. and yet.. has NO respect, for my illness.. even makes fun of me..
almost.. bc i won't push past what i can do..

She says she can't work, but um can unload a whole rental place, by herself and cart it all in?? riiiiiiiiight... and the list goes on.....

oh yeah, and she can't get on disability, no matter how many drs, she's seen..

(man i'm being negative today LOL, sorry).. some people just push ones buttons, lol
I've never taken Lyrica, but I gotta agree...

THAT WOMAN ANNOYS THE HECK OUT OF ME!
Oh my gosh!  I only read the first post and had to reply!  Not only do I hate, hate, hate that commercial, but my kids can't stand it.  We are always making fun of the "so tender to the touch" line.  Wow that felt good to vent!
paperdoll, yes, drowsiness, dizziness and feeling-out-it-ness are the main side effects.  Mine went away after a couple of weeks.
LOL! My fibro makes me dizzy, drowsy and feeling like I'm out of it anyways! _popupControl(); I just bumped an old post from Pip that has a link to an editorial commenting on the Lyrica ad. i thought lycra was a pair of tight joging  pants   Yes!  That first one, with the woman so frail I thought she was going to pass out, is sooooo annoying.  To me it just reinforced the notion that it's high-strung, weak women who have this disease and doesn't really give an accurate profile.  Maybe the drug company got a lot of negative feedback and that's why they put out another commercial.  I've only seen the new one once, but found it much less offensive than the first.  I never want to see that first one again.  The only one I've seen is the diary-reading one. And, yes, this is a disgusting commercial. I was given Lyrica by my Rheumatologist, but it just made me sick, very dizzy, heart  beat fast, etc. It didn't help my skin "so tender to the touch", at all.

I take a lot of different meds already, and refuse to take another one with which I see no improvement. My mother-in-law takes lyrica (she's really cute, she thinks the name of it is lycra

I know it does help some of us with fibro., but it didn't help me. It's good to know that someone takes it seriously enough to have developed a drug for it, though.
I sure would like to see the one with men in it! I don't know any men with fibro, either. Of course, the only women I know with it are my friends here.

I do hope that it helps those of you who suffer with fibro.
It wasn't developed to treat fibromyalgia - it was originally developed to treat certain types of seizures.  The indication for fibromyalgia was added in 2007.  I don't discount the pain and disconfort of fibromyalgia--I just hate the commercial.  It is certainly going to have a negative impact on the credibility of anyone who has it.  I don't understand why a drug company would have a commercial made like that.  The need to fire their marketing company and find a new one.It was precribed to me for some nerve damage I have in one leg after an old surgery years ago. It's also used to treat my neruopathy and it works wonders for me.

I have to take it at night also though because it makes me a little dizzy. I take 150mg at night and it works well for 24 hours.

I'm not a fan of the commercials either. I especially hate that Viagra commercial Viva-Viagra! Viva-Viagra! How crazy is that? You can see the hair on the back of my husband's neck stand up everytime it comes on. I just know he's waiting for my 14 year old daughter to ask "What's E.D?"
Lovie2008-04-28 10:35:23It would take a team of gardners to keep up that yard in the second commercial.  Can't stand those commercials either.
