The doc i saw gave me naproxen for my pain. The bottle says take twice a day. ok that is all well and good but that isn't enough.

Not only does it take over an hour to kick in.. which I could live with.. but it only lasts for like 2 hours.
arghh.
So now I'm sitting here with my hips and wrist hurting.. my knees hurting when I walk around.
My left  knee hurting from being at an angle and I want to take more !
I took it in the afternoon some time. I don't remember the time. I guess what i'm asking is how long does it stay in the system ?

I forgot to post that its 375mg pills.
asherah2008-04-29 22:59:06you should not take     it      more   then that   it   is an   anti  inflamitory not a pain  med.     It usually takes about      6to 10 houis for me to feel the fulll  benifit of the naproxsyn.  I try not to  take it unless I absoutly need  it. and always eat before you take it.Are you taking the delayed-release/enteric-coated version?  The delayed release version generally takes an hour or more to be released.  Also, the anti-inflammatory actions of naproxen take a few days to kick in.  I would suggest hanging in there and speaking with your doctor if you don't start feeling better soon.  The maxiumum dose for naproxen is 1000mg/day (with 1500mg/day for short periods), so if the 375mg 2x/day is not adequate, talk to your doctor about increasing.  But, of course, with increased dosage comes increased risk of adverse events, especially gastrointestinal problems.  Delayed-release versions reduce the risk of GI problems, but they by no means eliminate the risk. call your doctor and let him knowhhow you are doing on the medication.  do not take more than prescribed at this time.  Hopefully the dr will call in a new script for youok thanks alot
i will call his office.

You could find that it takes weeks to do a real number on inflammation. It'll work sooner than that, but the full effect takes longer. Definitely not something to keep popping if you hurt. You might be able to divide your doses differently and add something else, like ibuprofen. But you need to discuss this with your doctor. I find that Nabumetone works better for me than Naproxen--it's stronger and stays in your system longer, but it still takes a while to reach a comfortable maintenance level. I stayed with the Naproxen a month before switching.

With any drug, you need to understand that there's a time delay between taking it and when the full potency of the medication begins.
